In two separate recent incidents, owners cited for loose livestock

Why did the chickens cross the road in Kennett Square? Because the owners ran afoul of borough ordinances, police said.

In two separate instances, one on Sept. 5 in the 700 block of Wayne Avenue and one on Sept. 16 in the 200 block of East Linden Street, police were called for reports of roaming chickens.  After they rounded up the fowl, the respective owners, Mariano Zavala-Lara, 44, of Wayne Avenue, and Agustin Aguilera, 49, of East Linden Street, were each cited for violating the borough ordinance that prohibits livestock from running at large.

In other recent police activity, police made two drunken-driving arrests. Police said Raul Rodriguez-Morales, 20, of Wilmington, De., was cited after a traffic stop in the 500 block of South Union Street on Sept. 25 at 1:10 a.m. Jose Manuel Quintero, 26, of Kennett Square, was cited after being stopped in the 400 block of West State Street, police said.

A traffic stop at West South and Center Streets led to the arrest of Jesus Aguilera, 27, of Kennett Square, for an outstanding warrant, police said. A 16-year-old girl from Toughkenamon was referred to juvenile authorities on Sept. 17; police said the teen possessed marijuana and drug paraphernalia on the walking trail in the 400 block of Dalmation Lane.

Police said they are investigating the following incidents of criminal mischief: vandalism to a vehicle in the 300 block of Juniper Street the evening of Sept. 26; a slashed tire on a vehicle parked in the 600 block of South Broad Street during the day on Sept. 19; a smashed windshield on a vehicle parked in the 100 block of North Union Street overnight on Sept. 15; and the discharge of a fire extinguisher in the hallway of an apartment building in the 500 block of Center Street between 11 p.m. Sept 15 and 12:50 a.m. Sept. 16.

Investigators are also probing the theft of a silver 1993 Oldsmobile 88 Royale, license number HSX9998, from the parking lot in the 100 block of Church Alley on Sept. 22, police said.
