Kennett Square visitors will have an opportunity to buzz in on the conversations of these fascinating reenactors participating in “Has Thee Heard” tonight, a program sponsored by the Kennett Historical Commission, Historic Kennett Square & Kennett Underground Railroad Center.

From First Friday to Vive Tu Vida, activity choices aplenty

Kennett-area residents will have a plethora of entertainment options this weekend, many a short distance away.

Tonight is the borough’s First Friday Art Stroll, including the Kennett Underground Railroad Center’s presentation of  “Has Thee Heard”.  Sponsored by the Kennett Historical Commission, Historic Kennett Square and Kennett Underground Railroad Center, the program at several downtown locations between 7 and 9 p.m. will enable visitors to eavesdrop on the conversations of local heroes of the past as they chat about issues of the past – topics ranging from abolitionism to the “free produce” movement.

In addition, numerous art exhibits, live music, and great shopping and food will be available. For example, Greenable, a retailer specializing in environmentally-conscious products, will be celebrating its first anniversary in the borough from 5 to 8 p.m. with a display of repurposed art from the Merchant of Menace gallery in Marshallton. Or you can learn how to “throw a plate” nonviolently by stopping in to the Charles Metzger Pottery studio, where demos will be held.

On Saturday, La Comunidad Hispana will host “Vive Tu Vida – Get Up, Get Moving,” a good health festival at Anson B. Nixon Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees may want to take a break – and get some beneficial exercise – by walking over to Kennett High School, where the Homecoming Parade is scheduled for 1:45 p.m.

Music fans will also have convenient choices. At the Kennett Flash, Phil Minnisale performs Friday night and the Melton Brothers take the stage Saturday. On Sunday, the Kennett Symphony will be the beneficiary of The Classics at Brantwyn, an annual fund-raiser featuring a vintage and super car tour and show at the elegant Brantwyn Mansion in Wilmington, De.

The nearby Unionville Community Fair will be in full swing today, Saturday and Sunday with myriad family-friendly options, including the 2012 Willowdale Pro Rodeo Saturday at 6 p.m.
