Kennett powers past Sun Valley, 35-13

KENNETT SQUARE — So, it turns out this Jordan Lardani guy is for real, and so is Kennett football.

Lardani scored three touchdowns and rushed for more than 200 yards leading the Blue Demons (4-2, 1-1) to win over the Vanguards, (4-2, 2-1), shortening the list of undefeated teams remaining in the ChesMont American Division to one, Unionville. Although both Kennett and Unionville have three challenging league games before the season finale on Nov. 3, should both teams win out, it would set the stage for a massive game between the neighbors and rivals in terms of league and postseason implications.

Celebrating Homecoming, Kennett wasted no time — grabbing a 20-0 lead by the early minutes of the second quarter, with Lardani, arguably the county’s best running back in 2012, scoring all three on the ground. Sun Valley had no answer for the Blue Demons’ powerful triple option offense, now largely mastered by the team in coach Scott Green’s third season at the helm.

Kennett could shorten the list of league contenders more next week, hosting Great Valley, which comes into the week with a 4-2 overall record and 2-1 record in the ChesMont American. A win over the Patriots — probably the toughest opponent remaining on the schedule until the season-ending contest with Unionville — would put the Blue Demons in position to likely control their fate in terms of the state playoffs, but one more loss would probably push them out of contention for both the postseason and the conference title.
