$3.3 million project would add 8,000 sq. feet to existing facility

An architect’s rendering of the renovation plan for the Kennett Square Bible Methodist Church, which Sunday, approved a $3.3 million plan to expand and renovate the church. Fundraising is expected to begin immediately.

KENNETT SQUARE – The members of the Kennett Square Bible Methodist Church, Sunday, voted to begin raising $3.313 million to renovate and expand their church building.  The project will add approximately 8,000 square feet to the present building.  The additional room will include office space, a fellowship hall with a commercial kitchen, classrooms, a conference room, and permanent space for the Kennett Clothing Closet.

The church’s building committee worked with Dennis Melton, principal of Melton Architects of Kennett Square to design the project.  The construction estimate was provided by MOBAC, Inc. also of Kennett Square.

The plan for the newly expanded Kennett Square Bible Methodist church would include classrooms and a permanent home for the Kennett Clothing Closet.

The Rev. Douglas Stirling, Pastor of the church, presented four options to the members who then voted for their preference.  Rev. Stirling noted that the fundraising goal of more than $3 million for such a large project would seem to be impossible for a smaller church.  However, Striling told the church members that faith is the key and no project is too large or too expensive for God to accomplish.

Stirling said the fund raising efforts will begin immediately.  He added that the church’s Elder board and building committee will work closely with borough officials to ensure the project meets all current code requirements and borough ordinances.

The original building was constructed in 1954 and has been expanded twice since then.  The Kennett Square Bible Methodist Church is located at 500 E. Cypress Street in Kennett Square.  Project updates will be posted on the church’s website:  www.ksbmc.org.
