- EAST MARLBOROUGH – During the weeks before Christmas, students, staff and families at Upland Country Day School participated in an Adopt-a-Family program to provide gifts and necessities for the less fortunate at Tick Tock Early Learning Center in Avondale. With the help of students, faculty, staff and parents, the program collected nearly 100 gifts including toys, diapers and grocery gift cards. A group of students delivered a van full of wrapped packages to Tick Tock last week where they were distributed to the center’s families.
Tick Tock Early Learning is a United Way Agency that helps hard-working low-income families receive quality educational day care through the support of the United Way and private contributions. Tick Tock’s mission is also to prepare young children to succeed in kindergarten and beyond through its English-immersion preschool learning program. Tick Tock serves children ages 2 through 3rd grade from Kennett, Avondale, West Grove and Oxford School areas, regardless of race, color, religious creed, ancestry, disability, national origin or income level.
Upland students in grades Pre-k through 9 participated in the program which provides students with the opportunity to serve, care for and help those less fortunate. The students “adopted” Tick Tock kids for the holidays and shopped for, wrapped and delivered the presents. Tick Tock Director Jackie Maas gave the students a tour of the facilities and an overview of the school’s mission. Many of the students will be returning in January to serve at Tick Tock as a Martin Luther King Jr. Day community service activity.
In addition to collecting holiday gifts, the Upland students also ran a hat and mitten drive for the less fortunate, sponsored a fundraiser for
the B+ Foundation for childhood cancer research, and ran a canned food drive for the Kennett Food Cupboard during the month of December.
Upland Country Day School is a co-educational, independent school in Kennett Square for students in Pre-K through 9th grade.
