Kennett Square Police: Scam attempts continuing

 Resident reported receiving a letter seeking payment to qualify for $50,000 prize

The scam attempts continue, said Kennett Square police, citing a letter received by a resident in the 300 block of North Lincoln Street on Jan. 9.

Police said the letter stated the resident had won $50,000 and needed to send $1,920 by Western Union or Money Gram for tax purposes in order to claim the prize. An investigation is continuing, police said.

Police said Manuel Bedolla, 19, of West Grove, was arrested Jan. 9, stemming from an incident in June in the 700 block of Lafayette Street when he allegedly gave false identification to law enforcement.

William E. Claycomb, 43, of Kennett Square, was arrested for allegedly interfering with child custody. Police said the incident occurred  between Jan. 5 at 10 p.m. and Jan. 6 at 3 a.m. in the 500 block of Penn Avenue.

Borough police said they are investigating graffiti that an officer on routine patrol found on a junction box in the 500 block of South Broad Street on Jan. 8 at 11:08 a.m.

Sean Hamilton, 25, of Philadelphia, was cited for soliciting without a permit for Gateway Energy on Jan. 11 at 4:20 p.m. in the 200 block of East Linden Stree, Kennett Square Police said.

Shawn Vetland, 43, of Lincoln University, was arrested for drunken-driving following an accident at West Cypress and South Union Streets on Jan. 11 at 10:10 p.m., borough police said.

State police from the Avondale barracks said they are investigating the theft of a case of wine and some cash from a vehicle. Police said the theft occurred sometime sometime between 6 p.m. on Jan. 13 and 8:32 a.m. Jan. 14 from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 100 block of Knoxlyn Farm Lane in Kennett Township.

Another alcohol theft occurred during a break-in Jan. 14 from 4 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. in the 200 block of Marshall Bridge Road in Kennett Township, state police said. Four, four-liter bottles of Carlo Rossi Paisano wine were stolen from inside the residence, police said. Anyone with information about either of the wine thefts is asked to call the barracks at 610-268-2022.
