The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors a program about managing concerns about falls entitled “A Matter of Balance” beginning on Wednesday, August 3 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. This service is provided by Neighborhood Health Agencies, Inc. HealthLink Program. You will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, and exercise to increase strength and balance. There will be 2 hour sessions held for a total of 8 weeks (16 hour course). Participants will be expected to attend all of the sessions. The program fee is $5/session for members, and $10/session for non-members. The fee includes a workbook and refreshments. Please contact the KASC @610-444-4819 for reservations.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors an afternoon Tea Party on Tuesday, August 9 from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. In addition to a variety of fine teas, delicacies are served to the delight of the participants. The theme of August’s Tea Party is “Lazy Days of Summer”. The cost is $6/member and $8/non-member. Please call the KASC for reservations @610-444-4819.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors a Free Blood Pressure Screening on the second Thursday of each month. This service is provided by Neighborhood Health Agencies, Inc. In addition to KASC members, all seniors in the general public age 60 and up are invited to receive this important medical service. No appointment is necessary. The next scheduled date is Thursday, August 11 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors a Free Lunch and Learn program entitled “Skin Cancer Detection” on Thursday, August 11 at 12:00 noon. This service is provided by Neighborhood Health Agencies, Inc. Home and Hospice. Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers and the easiest to cure if diagnosed early. Please attend the program to learn how to do a self-examination of your skin and what to look for.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors a Book Talk by Donna Murray (from the Bayard Taylor Library) on Wednesday, August 24 at 12:00 noon. Mrs. Murray will be reviewing the book “In Defense of Food” by Michael Pollan.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors a monthly “Spirit Day” on Friday, August 26. The theme is “Hawaii Day” and everyone is encouraged to wear Hawaiian attire. This day of fun and social interaction will also include the movie “Blue Hawaii” starring Elvis Presley at 12:30 p.m.

The Kennett Area Senior Center sponsors an afternoon “Sunday Dinner with Friends” on Sunday, August 28 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Dinner will be from 1:00 – 1:45 and Music and Dancing with the Center Sounds from 1:45 – 3:00. The cost is $10/person and the theme is “Our Summer Picnic”. Everyone is welcome, regardless of age. Please contact the KASC @610-444-4819 a week in advance for reservations.
