The theme of the 31st Annual Chester County Antiques Show “Architectural Elements in Furniture”

“Architectural Elements in Furniture” will provide the theme of the 31stAnnual Chester County Antiques Show, and organizers hope local residents and architectural students will mark their calendars.

This year’s show, presented by PECO, will run April 5-7 at its new location: the Phelps School in Malvern. Visitors are urged to spend the day observing history through antiques from dealers across the country and then explore the shops and restaurants of Malvern, another historic resource.

This year’s featured speakers will be Brock Jobe, professor of American decorative arts at Winterthur Museum, and John Milner, fellow of the American Institute of Architects.

Jobe, who also teaches at the University of Delaware’s Center for Material Culture Studies, has worked as a museum curator and administrator at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Colonial Williamsburg, and the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities. He has published and edited many works on early American furniture, including Harbor & Home: Furniture of Southeastern Massachusetts, 1710–1850, which won the 2009 Book Prize from Historic New England.  His lecture, “Elements of Architecture in Furniture,” will be held at 1 p.m. on April 6.

John Milner, well-known regionally for his work on the restoration of historic buildings and the design of new buildings that pay homage to history, works in the field of historic preservation. For over 30 years, Milner has been an adjunct professor of architecture in the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Design. He will be lecturing on “Restoration: The Process of Discovery” at 3 p.m. on April 6.

A Preview Party for the show will be held on Friday, April 5, from 5 to 9 p.m. It provides an early look at the event’s displays while enjoying fine fare and meeting the vendors, as well as the Historical Society’s Board of Trustees and other supporters, such as Betty Moran. The show will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
