The Internal Revenue Service surprised a resident of the 100 block of West Mulberry Street with a letter stating that the agency was reviewing her 2012 tax return before issuing a refund, Kennett Square police said.

The scrutiny was apparently fortuitous since the woman told police she has not filed her 2012 return yet. Police said when the woman contacted the IRS, she learned that a tax return was submitted using her Social Security number.  Police said an investigation is continuing.

Another ongoing investigation involves the theft of two tank top shirts from a business in the 100 block of East State Street on March 9 at 2:45 p.m., police said.  The suspects, both of whom had ice cream, were described as a white female with long, dark brown hair, thin build, wearing a green/olive tank top and black leggings, carrying a hemp bag; and a Hispanic or Indian female with long, dark curly hair, medium build, wearing a black shirt and black shorts, police said. They were last seen heading south on South Union Street on foot, police said.

Jose Martin-Delgado, 53, of Kennett Square, was cited for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct and released to a relative on March 3 at 3:03 a.m. at Sun. Las Rosas Drive and Center Street, police said.

Thomas Koffenberger, 55, Kennett Square, was arrested for driving under the influence following a traffic stop in the 700 block of West Cypress Street on March 4 at 5:41 p.m., police said.

Kennett Square police arrested Rebecca Schroder-Cunane, 36, of West Chester, for DUI following a traffic stop in the 400 block of East State Street on March 4 a 6:56 p.m., police said.

Jose Verde-Plasencia, 33, of Kennett Square, was charged with simple assault, harassment, and possession of drug paraphernalia for an incident that occurred on March 5 at 9:25 p.m. in the 200 block of South Walnut Street, police said.  Verde-Plasencia, who was unable to post $5,000 cash bail, was taken to Chester County Prison, police said.

Rogelio Reyes-Castillo, 23, of New Castle, De., was arrested for driving under the influence a traffic stop on March 7 at 10:54 p.m. at East Cypress and Cope Roads, police said.

State police from the Avondale barracks are investigating the reported theft of cash from a residence in the unit block of Whitetail Road in Kennett Township on Saturday at 9:57 a.m.

Also under investigation is vandalism to a mailbox in the 100 block of Gypsy Lane on Feb. 23 from shortly after midnight to 2:30 a.m. Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call state police at 610-268-2022.
