Restaurants, retailers gear up for Kennett Square’s First Friday

Many borough retailers and restaurants will feature special exhibits and live music on the First Friday Art Stroll.

Saunter through the streets of Kennett Square on Friday for the Art Stroll from 6 to 9 p.m. Many borough businesses will showcase special exhibits and refreshments.

For example, Kennett Design, a new business at 117 West State Street, regularly holds “social art” classes.  On Friday, two of their instruction artists will feature items such as hand-painted recycled mirror and hand- cut linoleum block prints on recycled bags.

The Flickerwood Wine Tasting Room, 116 W. State St., will display the recycled work of fusion glass artist, Tracey Regester and present live music by Angelee.

The Longwood Art Gallery, 200 E. State Street, will host a reception for Mary Holton, a multi-media artist inspired by the impressionistic techniques of the Cape Cod artists. Wine and cheese, live music and conversation will accompany the show.

Vignette, 123 E. State St., will offer beer, picnic finger food and music from the 50’s; these accouterments of a simpler time will provide a backdrop for a hat display by Patricia Underwood and Carol Bader, who are featured in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum and the Philadelphia Art Museum.

Strollers can sample refreshments will watching a pottery demonstration at Charles Metzger Pottery, 107 S. Union St., and families can visit with local children’s author Dalen Keys at the grand opening of the Growing Tree Toy Shop, 114 W. State St.  Another local author, Thea Toocheck, will sign her second book in the Transcendence Series, “Night Crawlers,” at the Eco Boutique, 103 W. State St.
