He will perform with elite state group at convention in Erie

Lucas Gramig was chosen

Lucas Gramig earned a berth in the 2013 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All-State Chorus.

A Kennett High School senior’s winning baritone earned him a spot in the 2013 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All-State Chorus, the school district has announced.

Lucas Gramig will perform with nearly 200 of the state’s best high school vocalists during the PMEA convention in Erie, from April 17 to April 20.  He advanced through District 12 and Region VI auditions to join the all-state chorus.

Gramig has experience auditioning and performing with PMEA groups in the state’s most competitive region.   In previous years, he was a member of Region VI Chorus, and tuba player for the District 12 Band.  He plays tuba for the Kennett High School’s band and orchestra. Catherine Soukup, choral director at Kennett High School, will accompany Gramig to the PMEA convention, the school district said.

In Erie, composer and conductor Steven Sametz, the Ronald J. Ulrich Professor of Music and director of Lehigh University Choral Arts, will direct Gramig and the other students as they practice at the Bayside Convention Center.  The all-state chorus will perform at the historic Warner Theater in Erie, the twin of the Warner Theater in West Chester, now converted to the Warner Hotel, according to the district.
