Kennett Square man must now answer to Delaware authorities, too

Image 2 On April 10, Kennett Square officers arrested Simon Tapia-Ramirez, 35, of Kennett Square, charging him with theft, receiving stolen property, theft from a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding, and traffic offenses for an incident that occurred between 5:34 and 7 a.m. in the 100 block of East Cedar Street, police said.

Officers ended up pursuing Tapia-Ramirez across state lines, taking him into custody in Delaware, where he was turned over to Delaware State Police, Kennett Square police said. Tapia-Ramirez was arraigned in Delaware on 11 traffic offenses; unable to post $2,802 bail, he was remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, police said.  A detainer was lodged against Tapia-Ramirez for Kennett Square’s charges, police said.

Borough police are investigating the reported theft of a cell phone, taken sometime between 8 and 9:30 p.m. on April 9 from a business located in the 100 block of Race Street, police said.

Police are also investigating a robbery reported by a 15-year-old on Thursday, police said. The teen said he and some friends were walking on West South Street at 9:15 p.m. and were followed by a group of males; as the group reached the intersection with South Garfield Street, one of the males, wearing a black hoodie and jeans, ran up and snatched the victim’s baseball cap and headphones off his head and ran toward the Lafayette Street Apartments, police said, adding that the.  investigation is continuing.

Jessica Perez, 33, of Kennett Square, was cited for violating the borough code prohibiting pets from running at large after her dogs were found loose in the 100 block of South Walnut Street on April 13 at 9:41 p.m., police said.

Kennett Square officers arrested Jose Herrera, 59, of Kennett Square, for driving under the influence following a traffic stop on April 14 at 12:02 a.m. in the 600 block of South Walnut Street, police said, adding that Herrera was released at this residence pending summons from district court.
