For those interested in shining during an interview, the Chester County Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) is presenting a free professional development workshop on May 8 from 10:30 to noon at its office at 790 E. Market St., Suite 100, West Chester. “How to Stand Out from Other Job Applicants” will be offered by Cynthia Ericson of Ericson Strategic Marketing Solutions. To register, call 610-692-2344.

An expanding networking and support group for job-seekers has added a light dinner to its weekly activities. The Barnabas Group, named after the Biblical disciple known as the “Son of Encouragement”, meets Monday nights at Calvary Fellowship Church of Downingtown, 95 W. Devon Dr. at Route 113, Lionville, and provides a variety of services to those who are unemployed and underemployed, regardless of religious affiliation.

The new optional dinner feature, designed to provide a time of additional connecting and fellowship, starts at 6:15 p.m., followed by weekly job-related presentations and activities from 7 to 8 p.m., and optional networking opportunities until 9 p.m. In addition to presentations, currently involving components of the “12 Steps Toward Employment” workshop curriculum, the group also offers individual volunteer support for resume writing, job search assistance, and more.
