Kennett Square Farmers Market will also open for season
Put some spring in your step by celebrating the seasonal opening of the Kennett Square Farmers Market followed by the Art Stroll on Friday.
The market will operate in the Genesis Walkway and along East State Street from 2 to 6 p.m. Vendors will showcase fresh produce, artisan breads and cheeses, pastured meats, and other locally produced items.
Music, dining and visits with artists will take place Friday evening during the May Art Stroll. Highlights include a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. for local artist Dennis Young, who will be showing his pastel and acrylic paintings at the Longwood Art Gallery, 200 E. State Street; live music by Corkscrewed Blues from 7 to 10:30 p.m. and an exhibit by artist Jennifer Zduniak at the Flickerwood Wine Tasting Room, 116 W. State St.; and a pre-Kentucky Derby party with music and southern tidbits that will include mint juleps and a collection of hat couture at Vignette by L.E. Walker, 123 E. State St.
In addition, Kennett Design, 117 W. State St., will hold a “social art event” with group instruction of the “Field of Poppies” painting; pre-register by calling 610-444-4400. Charcoal and silverpoint drawings by Jared Fisher will also be on display. Mala Galleria, 206 E. State Street, invites the public to an opening reception of “Waterlilies,” a showing of contemporary realist paintings by Frank DePietro.
Art Strolls take place the first Friday of every month and are just one of the many events happening in downtown Kennett Square. A complete calendar listing can be found at www.historickennettsquare.com. The Art Strolls and other downtown events are sponsored by Historic Kennett Square.
