Police: Two businesses cited recently for failing to obtain one

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIf you own a business and want to solicit in the Borough of Kennett Square, you need a permit. Two businesses learned that lesson painfully in recent weeks when they received citations, Kennett Square police said.

The Power Home Remodeling Group of Chester was cited after several of their employees were observed in the 800 block of South Mill Road on April 3 at 1:39 p.m., and Gateway Energy of Forty Fort in Luzerne County had a similar experience after its employees were seen in the 600 block of South Washington Street on March 19, police said.

Joseph Bruno-Laguer 33, Kennett Square, was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop on April 19 at 8 a.m. in the 500 block of South Union Street, police said.

On May 3, police said they received a report that on April 30 between 10 and 11 a.m., someone took the driver’s-side mirror lens from a vehicle parked in the 200 block of North Union Street.  The investigation is continuing, police said.

Police said they charged Gary Lewis, 51, of Lancaster, with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and harassment for an incident that occurred on May 4 at 6:31 p.m. in the 200 block of Birch Street.

Allison Phillips, 29, of Kennett Square, received a citation for a dog-ordinance violation after her white pit bull got loose on April 17 at 10:07 p.m. and seriously injured a Chihuahua in the 200 block of East Linden Street, police said.

State police from the Avondale barracks responded to a one-vehicle crash on westbound Landenberg Road, just east of Walnut Run Road in New Garden Township, on May 4 at 2:20 a.m. Police said a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Fanny E. Gift, 47, of Landenberg, exited the roadway, struck an embankment and then a large tree. Gift, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was extricated by the Avondale Fire Company and transported to Christiana Hospital with major injuries, police said. Charges have since been filed since it was determined that Gift was driving under the influence, police said.
