Crew anchored the college decision of a Kennett High School senior who recently signed a letter of intent to row with Drexel University, the school district announced.

received an athletic scholarship from Drexel University, a Division I school, where she will be the coxswain for the Women’s Varsity Crew team. For more than three years, she rowed with the Newport Rowing Club in Newport, De.  In women’s lightweight 4+ events, her team placed third in the Mid-Atlantic region and seventh overall at the Saratoga Invitational – against the East Coast’s stiffest competition.

Parikh turned to rowing after breaking her foot twice playing soccer.  While her foot was in a cast, she attended a Newport Rowing Club open house and started rowing on the novice squad, the district said. In addition to practicing 18 hours a week, Parikh maintained an active schedule at Kennett High, where she was a National Honor Society member, yearbook editor, and Reach Out into the Community member, assisting in a Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center classroom twice a week.  Nupur also received an Excellence in World Languages award.

Off the water and away from school, Nupur participated in the Indo American Association of Delaware’s Youth Group.  She was the group’s president in 10th grade and raised $2,000 twice on behalf of the group for the Wilmington Firefighter’s Holiday Fund and the Global Youth HELP in India.  She received community service awards from Wilmington County Council and Wilmington City Council for her efforts.

At Drexel, Nupur will major in international area studies with a concentration in justice and human rights.  She is also considering law school.
