Troopers reportedly give chase after 18-year-old driver refuses to stop 

Image 2On Friday, a Kennett Square driver’s failure to heed a stop sign led to multiple charges, state police from the Avondale barracks said.  For starters, Matthew J. Scott, 18, of Kennett Square, also ignored an attempted traffic stop, leading troopers on a brief pursuit, state police said.

Once Scott was apprehended, troopers found him to be under the influence of alcohol, police said. A preliminary hearing on charges that include fleeing authorities, driving under the influence, and underage drinking is scheduled for Aug. 15, according to court records.

Troopers from the Avondale barracks conducted a traffic stop on southbound U.S. 1, south of Rt. 82, in New Garden Township, on July 26 at 2:39 a.m., state police said. Robert J. Beatty, 25, of Rising Sun, Md., was arrested for driving under the influence, police said.

A traffic stop on Rt. 41, north of Moxley Lane, in London Grove Township, led to driving under the influence charges for Charles V. Mattucci, 44, of Toughkenamon, on July 31 at 9:50 p.m., said state police.

Kennett Square Borough Police are investigating several reported thefts. One occurred sometime between 7:15 and 8 a.m. on July 19 when a backpack containing a cell phone was stolen from the 100 block of Waterworks Drive. One involved the theft of a cell phone from a business located in the 100 block of Race Street sometime between 11:45 and 11:55 a.m. on July 21, and the third allegedly occurred when a mail package was stolen from a residence in the 100 block of North Willow Street between 12:45 and 1:15 p.m. on July 20, borough police said.

Also under investigation is a reported assault on July 21 at 11:25 p.m. Borough police said a 20-year-old male said he was attacked by four males in the 400 block of East South Street.

Between 6:45 and 7 p.m. on July 21, a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Juniper Street was vandalized, borough police said, adding that all four tires were flattened and several windows were broken out.  An investigation is continuing, police said.

A traffic accident in the 100 block of North Union Street on July 23 at 10:37 p.m. led to the arrest of Anibal Perez-Reynoso, 19, of Toughkenamon, for suspected drunken-driving, borough police said. Perez-Reynoso was released pending a summons from district court, police said.

Robert Bennett, 44, of Kennett Square, was arrested for DUI following a traffic accident at Cypress and Union Streets and an accident in the 200 block of South Union Street on July 27 at 10:56 a.m., borough police said. Bennett was released to a friend pending a summons from district court, police said.

Kennett Square Police said they arrested Eugene Boddy, 37, of Kennett Square, for criminal trespass for an incident that occurred on July 25 at 1:51 p.m. in the 300 block of Birch Street.  Boddy was released at his residence pending a summons from district court, police said.
