KENNETT — Mert LaBare of Kennett Township has been named the new Captain of Longwood Fire Company.
“Longwood provides valuable services to the community and I’m honored to have an opportunity to contribute by being captain,” LaBare said. “We’re here to serve people in need.”
LaBare said six years ago he became associated with Longwood Fire Company as part of the fire police unit.
“I was given a pager and was on a fire engine that first night,” LaBare said. “I haven’t looked back since.”
LaBare, who assumed his duties within the last month, said his biggest challenge is finding the time needed to complete the tasks of captain.
“There is much to do here. We’re seeking volunteers to help. Anyone wanting to support and contribute to the community is welcomed,” he said.
Longwood Fire Company has served the communities of Kennett, East Marlborough, Pennsbury and Pocopson townships since 1921. Longwood Fire Company provides fire and rescue and emergency medical services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For more information see www.longwoodfireco.com.
