Police: Erratic motorist nearly hits marked cruiser

59-year-old Kennett Square resident arrested for suspected drunken-driving 

Image 2A Kennett Square man almost struck a marked police cruiser on Saturday on Bayard Road in Kennett Township, state police from the Avondale barracks said. David R. Heinze, 59, was stopped for driving erratically near Viburnum Drive and arrested for driving under the influence, police said. Heinze then added resisting arrest to his pending charges, police said.

On Thursday at 10 p.m., a Delaware man called state police to report that he had been robbed while in his vehicle, police said. When troopers responded to Woodale Drive, east of Bayard Road, in Kennett Township, they found Ryan E. Barros, 21, of Rehoboth Beach, intoxicated, police said. Barros was arrested for driving under the influence, police said.

Kennett Square Police cited Power Home Remodeling Group of Chester for soliciting in the borough without a permit after their employees were observed soliciting in the 700 block of Lafayette Street on Aug. 19 at 2:55 p.m., police said.  Employees David Ferrell, 25, of Carthage, Mo., and John Sanford, 19, of Sewell, N.J., were also cited, police said.

A criminal-mischief complaint is under investigation, Kennett Square Police said. Sometime overnight on Aug. 14, a passenger’s side window was broken and the interior of a vehicle parked in the 500 block of South Broad Street was ransacked, police said.

Borough police are looking for the owner of a set of keys found in the 100 block of West State Street on Aug. 14 at 2 p.m., police said.

The following incidents of theft overnight on Aug. 18 are under investigation: a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Center Street was ransacked and a pair of gloves was taken; change and a cell phone were taken from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 400 block of Meredith Street; a GPS & iPod were stolen from a vehicle parked in the 300 block of Sycamore Alley, borough police said.

Sometime between Aug. 17 at 5 p.m. and Aug. 19 at 5 a.m., a vehicle parked in the 500 block of East Cypress Street was broken into and change & CDs were taken, borough police said, adding that an investigation continues.

An April 9 theft of a cell phone from a business located in the 100 block of Race Street led to an arrest, borough police said. Jeffrey Freeman, 20, of Kennett Square, was charged with theft and receiving stolen property, borough police said. According to court records, Freeman is awaiting a preliminary hearing; a fugitive declaration was filed last month.

State police from the Avondale barracks arrested a Kennett Square man for harassment after a domestic dispute with his girlfriend in East Nottingham Township, police said. Donald J. Bradt II, 53, was cited on Aug. 18 at 3:30 p.m., police said.

A 21-year-old Lincoln University man was cited for crossing the yellow line on East Hillendale Road in Kennett Township, said state police from the Avondale barracks. Police said Ryan A. Woodworth was traveling west on Hillendale, east of Greenwood Road, on Saturday at 5:17 p.m. when his left the roadway and struck a tree.  Police said the severity of his injuries was unknown.
