Rival football matchup closing gap in hopes of winning local TV exposure

HS_Blitz_720x406Time is running out to vote for the season-opening Kennett-Avon Grove football game so it will be featured in the debut of “NBC10 High School Blitz” on Saturday.

The new weekly show will feature a “Game of the Week,” to be announced on Wednesday evening, chosen by the viewing public from three choices. Although the Kennett-Avon Grove contest jumped out to an early lead, Easton at Pennsbury has been gaining ground. The other contender is Northeast at Neshaminy.

The winning matchup will receive extended post-game coverage during the network’s news broadcast at 11 p.m. on Friday as well as during the Saturday night program, which will air at 7 p.m.  To vote, visit www.nbcphiladelphia.com or call 610-624-4111.

This week’s Kennett game will offer free admission to celebrate the new stadium lighting. Made possible by the Demon Lights Committee, which raised $225,000,  metal halide lamps will shine onto the field from 70-foot poles. The illumination will be celebrated as the “White Out” game, and the first 500 attendees will receive white T-shirts to commemorate the event. The gates will open at 6 p.m.

One last fund-raiser is planned to cover the remaining costs for the lights.  The Demon Lights Committee is seeking volunteers to hand out wristbands at the Mushroom Festival, which runs Sept. 7-8.  To volunteer, email:
