Grand reopening ceremony is scheduled for Friday
For thousands of Kennett-area residents, a beloved facility has just gotten better.
The Kennett Area YMCA, which consistently receives high ratings for member satisfaction, will celebrate the completion of a major facility expansion and upgrade with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday at 4 p.m. that will include members, donors, and local dignitaries.
Youth from the Kennett Area Y will cut the ribbon, officially marking the Y’s grand reopening. A reception and tours of the facility will follow the ceremony.
The Kennett Y, which has increased in size by 25 percent, will now include a zero-entry, warm-water pool; a family activity center; a half-gym and basketball court; a wellness studio; an arts studio with pottery kiln and additional health and wellness areas.
“The Y is the heart of our Kennett community. With these exciting renovations and improvements, we will have the space and resources to serve even more children and families in our community,” said Doug Nakashima, executive director of the Kennett Y.
More than 11,000 children and adults participate in programs at the Kennett Y, officials said. The Kennett Y offers health and wellness programs, child care, swim lessons and afterschool programs and provides financial assistance to ensure that no one is turned away from the Y due to inability to pay.
