Authorities took five people into custody following an investigation into a burglary on Saturday, New Garden Township Police said.
Officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of Penn Green Road at 5:09 p.m., where four Hispanic males said they were inside their apartment when a white female opened a door, saw the residents, and immediately exited the apartment, police said.
The victims, who are not being identified by police, followed the suspects and observed another white female inside another room, who also fled when she was spotted, police said. Both women were observed getting into a silver sedan, which was occupied by two males, one black and one white, and another white female; the vehicle fled the scene with all five occupants, police said.
The victims told police that when they returned to their apartment, they discovered jewelry and a wallet containing U.S. currency along with several lDs had been stolen. Police later learned from the landlord that the suspects’ vehicle had been seen at another location, and police obtained registration information and broadcast a message for law-enforcement to look out for the vehicle, police said.
About an hour and a half later, the New Garden Police Department was notified that the Pennsylvania State Police had the vehicle stopped near New Garden Township, police said. The victims were transported to the scene, which resulted in a positive identification of the female suspects observed in the residence. All five suspects, including a 16-year-old Landenberg girl, were taken into custody without incident, and the vehicle was towed, police said.
New Garden Police Chief Gerald Simpson said police obtained a search warrant for the vehicle, which contained some of the stolen items as well as heroin. Additional charges are pending, Simpson said.
The four adult defendants – Jennifer N. Farris, 22, of Rising Sun, Md.; Bobby J. Guinn, 32, of Peach Bottom; Lisa D. Senter, 24, of Quarryville; and Demetrius A. Rochester, 23, of Peach Bottom – were arraigned and remanded to Chester County Prison in lieu of $15,000.00, police said. The juvenile was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center, police said.
Simpson said numerous factors facilitated the quick arrests, including the fact that the victims made an immediate complaint, New Garden officers promptly gleaned and disseminated information on the suspects’ vehicle, and a vigilant state trooper spotted the sedan.
