Opportunities to get exercise will abound at Get Up! Get Moving! on Saturday.

Since exercise promotes good health, La Comunidad Hispana (LCH) is encouraging residents of the greater Kennett Square area to participate in ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!

The annual, public celebration is free and promotes family physical activity and good nutrition for better health and wellness for people of all ages.

This year’s premier Hispanic family event will be held from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday at Anson B. Nixon Park, 100 Waterworks Drive, Kennett Square. It will feature a number of new attractions, including roving nutritional ambassadors, who will offer tips on healthy eating to those attending.

Also new this year is the Restaurant Best salsa competition. Six local Mexican restaurants have agreed to prepare their own fresh salsa to be sampled from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The participating restaurants are El Ranchero Mexican Restaurant, La Peña Mexicana, Plaza Azteca, La Herradura, Taqueria Moroleon, and La Michoacana Grill.

Event attendees will be invited to taste-test each salsa and vote for their favorite. The restaurant with the most votes will be announced at 2 p.m., when the grand prize raffles are announced.

Another new addition, which will kick off the festival at 9 a.m., is a 5K Family Run/Walk, which will take place before the main stage activities begin.

“A 5k Family Run/Walk is a great addition to our event,” said Margarita Mirkil, president and chief executive officer of LCH. “At La Comunidad Hispana, we encourage families to take an active role to improve their health, and we support families in making healthy choices. We believe events such as this one provide the tools that lead to healthy lifestyle changes.”

Registration and packet pick-up are available in person at LCH from to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, or beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the park on the day of the event. 5k participants are invited to stay with their families to enjoy all the benefits of the ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving! event, which will also feature music, food and activities.

The cost of the 5K is $20 for the public, with all proceeds to benefit La Comunidad Hispana. Participation is free for all patients of the LCH community health center, as well as children ages 14 and under.  For registration information and event details, go to www.lacomunidadhispana.org.
