About a week after taking two brothers into custody for their role in a gang-related melee that resulted in a stabbing, New Garden Township Police said Tuesday that charges have been filed against Emmanuel “Criminal” Renteria.
Renteria, 25, was taken into custody on Oct. 5, along with his sibling, Guillermo Renteria-Enciso, 26, also known as “Terrorist,” after police responded to the 100 block of Thompson Road for a large fight – a dispatch that was elevated to a stabbing before police arrived.
Investigators, who included county detectives, said a children’s birthday party had erupted into mayhem. They said uninvited guests, including the two brothers from West Grove – both confirmed Sur-13 gang members – resisted requests that they leave quietly.
Instead, police said, the 29-year-old victim, who is not being identified by police, reported that he was “punched” by Renteria, who is known to him as “Criminal.” The victim, who later realized he had actually been stabbed, spent nine days in Christiana Hospital, where he had surgery, before being released, police said.
Renteria-Enciso was observed firing two shots into the ground and pulling the trigger of a handgun pointed in the direction of the crowd, police said. He was immediately arraigned on assault and firearms charges, including illegal gun possession, and was remanded to Chester County Prison after failing to post $500,000 cash bail, police said.
Renteria was incarcerated at Chester County Prison on several unrelated criminal warrants, pending review by the District Attorney’s Office, police said. The charges against him include criminal attempt homicide and conspiracy, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and numerous lesser offenses, police said.
New Garden Township Police Chief Gerald R. Simpson, who praised the quick work of investigators from his department as well as Chester County Detectives on the case, stressed that the investigation is continuing. He urged witnesses to contact the department’s anonymous tip line at 610-268-2907, ext. 222.
