Initiative is part of Kacie’s Cause, a campaign to fight scourge of heroin
A Kennett Square father who lost his 23-year-old daughter to a heroin overdose earlier this year is continuing his quest to raise awareness about the dangers of this readily available drug.
The latest outreach from Andy Rumford, who started Kacie’s Cause earlier this year, is a support group for parents of addicted children. Rumford’s 23-year-old daughter, Kacie Erin Rumford, died in March, and since then, he and a group of supporters have been holding town hall meetings and disseminating literature in an effort to prevent similar tragedies.
The support group will begin on Thursday, Nov. 7. It will convene weekly from 7 to 9 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 415 W. State St., Kennett Square.
“This weekly support group is for parents whose families are impacted by alcohol, substance abuse, and related behaviors of their children,” a news release explained. “This is a sharing group of parents that provides a confidential and safe place for finding resources, support, encouragement, and above all – hope.”
