Ryan Ellis, 25, of Wilmington, De., is accused of stealing from his employer, Hartefeld National golf club.

An employee at an Avondale golf club has been charged with stealing from his employer, New Garden Township Police said.

Ryan Ellis, 25, of Wilmington, De., was arrested at Hartefeld National on Monday, Nov. 4, accused of numerous thefts over the span of four months from his employer and other locations, police said.

Ellis came under local police scrutiny after New Castle County Police Department investigators observed Ellis’ information frequently appearing on their internal pawn records, said New Garden Township Police Chief Gerald R. Simpson. He said the items appearing on the pawn list, such as $500 battery-chargers for golf courses, could only have been acquired from a golf facility; it was later discovered that Ellis worked for Hartefeld National.

With the cooperation of Hartefeld National staff, the police were able to identify the pawned items as belonging to the club, and efforts are being made to recover the stolen items, police said.

Ellis was taken into custody without incident, where he confessed to his involvement in the internal felony thefts from his employer along with numerous other thefts occurring in Delaware, police said.  Ellis was arraigned and released on $15,000 unsecured bail, court records said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 8.

Simpson said his department was grateful for the cooperation and hard work performed by all the investigators, including those in Delaware.
