Traffic stops result after officers reportedly observe weaving, swerving
On Nov. 5 at 10:16 p.m., New Garden Township officers observed a black Saturn driving erratically in the 700 block of West Cypress Street, police said. After swerving into both lanes without turning signals, the driver abruptly turned into a driveway and continued to travel for a quarter-mile after police attempted to stop him, police said. Salvado Marcelo-Antunez, 37, of Kennett Square, finally stopped in front of a residence, exuded a strong odor of alcohol, showed signs of intoxication, and was quickly taken into custody and charged with drunken-driving, police said, adding that officers found open and empty cans of beer inside the vehicle. Marcelo-Antunez was released pending an appearance in district court, police said.
New Garden Police said they observed a Dodge van eastbound on West Cypress Street on Nov. 7 at 7:53 p.m. swerve left over the center road markings, almost striking the patrol vehicle. The vehicle continued to travel in the center of the roadway, straddling both lanes of travel, before a traffic stop occurred at the intersection of Scarlett Road, police said. During contact with the driver, Evaristo Rodriguez, 44, of New Castle, De., he exhibited several signs of intoxication and was arrested for driving under the influence, police said. Police said Rodriguez was released pending an appearance in district court.
On Nov. 9 at 10:05, New Garden officers observed a Ford F150 driving erratically on Hillendale Road in the area of Thompson Road, police said. The Ford was swerving and drove off the right side of the roadway on multiple occasions, police said. A traffic stop was conducted after the vehicle made an illegal left turn at the intersection of Newark and Hillendale Road, and police said they made contact with the driver, Daniel Alonso-Gonzales, 38, of Avondale. Alonso-Gonzales exhibited signs of intoxication, admitted to consuming beer and failed field sobriety tests, police said. He was released pending an appearance in district court on driving under the influence charges, police said.
