KENNETT SQUARE — Three star athletes at Kennett High School signed their collegiate letters of intent to continue their athletic careers in college earlier this month.
Senior Brooke Harner signed her letter of intent to play softball for West Chester University’s Division II team. Harner was surrounded by her parents, Dave and Margie Harner, her coach Kevin Reigel, and Kennett High School’s Athletic Director, Jeff Thomas.
Harner has pitched for Kennett High School’s varsity softball team since her freshman year. She currently holds a 1.3 ERA with 473 career strikeouts. During her sophomore year she was named to the Ches-Mont Second Team. In her junior year she was named to the Ches-Mont First Team and was presented with the Varsity Captain Award. In the same year she was also named as captain and pitcher of the 2013 American Division Champion Team.
Harner plans to study nutrition and dietetics at West Chester University.
Senior McKenna Coyle signed her letter of intent to play lacrosse for a Division I Penn State University. Coyle had verbally committed to Penn State the summer before her junior year of high school. McKenna was surrounded by her parents, Ken and Laura Coyle, Kennett High School lacrosse coach Dale Watkins, club lacrosse coach Kevin Ryan, and Kennett High School’s athletic director, Jeff Thomas.
In addition to playing lacrosse since seventh grade, Coyle has played on Kennett High School’s volleyball team for four years (one year on the junior varsity team; three years as a varsity player), and Kennett High School’s varsity basketball team her freshman and sophomore years.
As the goalie of Kennett High School’s lacrosse team Coyle was named to the 2011 Ches-Mont League Third Team; 2012 Kennett High School Lacrosse MVP; 2012 Ches-Mont League First Team; 2013 U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American Honorable Mention; 2013 U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American. She was also named to the 2011 Philly 2 National Tournament Team, the 2011 Philly Under Armour High School All-Star Team, the 2012 Philly 1 National Tournament Team, and the 2013 Philly National Tournament Team.
In addition to playing lacrosse for Kennett High School, Coyleis a member of a PA Express club team. Off the field, she is member of the National Honor Society and will major in marketing at Penn State.
Senior Kristin Schaen signed her letter of intent to play lacrosse for a Division I team at Lafayette College.
In addition to playing varsity lacrosse for four years, Schaen earned varsity letters in field hockey, indoor track, and swimming. On the lacrosse field, she plays as either a midfielder or an attacker. She plays right wing in field hockey and during indoor track competes as a sprinter and pole vaulter.
Her athletic honors include: in lacrosse, she had the best shooting percentage on the lacrosse team in 2013; she was a third team all-league attacker; and a Philly National team member. In field hockey, she was first team all-league in 2013; second team all-league in 2012; and best offensive player in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
Off the field, Schaen is on the distinguished honor roll and is a member of the National Honey Society.
Kristin intends to study international economics and commerce at Lafayette College.
