font-size: medium;\"><em><strong>No list for 2014, just one word \u2014 and it&#8217;s a challenge<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>By Kelly Hockenberry<\/strong>, <span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><em>Columnist, The Times<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/UTKellyRev2Column.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-688519\" style=\"margin: 4px;\" alt=\"UTKellyRev2Column\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/UTKellyRev2Column.jpg\" width=\"175\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a>I read many blogs on a regular basis and one of my favorites is \u201cThe Happiness Project\u201d by Gretchen Rubin.\u00a0 (She wrote a best-selling book by the same title.)\u00a0 Her idea for a New Year\u2019s Resolution is brilliant, so, I figured I would share and ask for your opinion.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, if you are like me, you sit down to ponder how things could change for the better in life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo more eating Oreo\u2019s while sitting in the kitchen watching mindless TV, no more picking at your fingernail polish, no more boot purchases\u2026.\u201d\u00a0 The basics. \u00a0However, Gretchen\u2019s idea is a little more cerebral (surprised?)\u00a0 \u2026she wants us to choose ONE SINGLE WORD to define 2014.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>That is tougher than it sounds.\u00a0 First of all, boiling things down to one word is a challenge to a chatty person like myself.\u00a0 But then, to have that word signify an overarching theme for an entire twelve months?!\u00a0 Daunting!\u00a0 I want to get this right!\u00a0 It would be a huge bummer to get stuck with a crappy word to start off 2014 because then you are destined for failure.\u00a0 (*dramatic pause)\u00a0 Take the time to THINK about it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Kelly1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-688518 alignleft\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" alt=\"Kelly1\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Kelly1.png\" width=\"220\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>So, I did.\u00a0 For a whole week.\u00a0 And, I\u2019ve decided that my word is \u201cUncomfortable.\u201d \u00a0Yes, you read that correctly.\u00a0 \u201cUncomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I have a tendency to stay in my comfort zone.\u00a0 I am not a risk taker.\u00a0 I prefer routine.\u00a0 I like knowing what comes next.\u00a0 (But, I am still fun at parties\u2026promise) \u00a0This year, thanks to my theme, all that will change!\u00a0 I will address things that bother me (even though I prefer not to), I will open myself up to experiencing new challenges (even though I don\u2019t want to), I will STOP BEING COMFORTABLE.<\/p>\n<p>Yikes.\u00a0 Now that my single word theme is out there in the world, I really need to follow through.\u00a0 That makes me uncomfortable\u2026<\/p>\n<p>I think I\u2019ve nailed it.<\/p>\n<p>How about you?\u00a0 What is YOUR word?\u00a0 Leave it in the Comment section below!<\/p>\n<p>HAPPY 2014!!!!\u00a0 Be safe!\u00a0 Don\u2019t drink &amp;
