Phase two of Pocopson roundabout project expected to continue through fall<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

POCOPSON \u2014 The second phase of construction of the planned roundabout will kick off on April 16, with the closing of Unionville-Lenape Road at Route 52, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).<\/p>\n

Wawaset Road \u2014 and direct access to Chester County Prison \u2014 \u00a0has been closed since the first phase of construction started in January.<\/p>\n

The roadway is expected to remain closed until the completion of the project, expected this fall. Motorists are advised to use Locust Grove Road as a detour.<\/p>\n

PennDOT began construction in January to build the roundabout \u00a0\u2014 its first built by PennDOT in this part state \u2014 to improve travel and safety at the intersection\u00a0of Route 52 (Lenape Road), Wawaset Road and Lenape Unionville Road.\u00a0The closure of\u00a0Lenape Unionville Road\u00a0will be in effect through the end of September. During this operation,\u00a0Lenape Unionville Road\u00a0through traffic will be detoured over Route 52 (Lenape Road) and Locust Grove Road. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area.\u00a0Route 52 is expected to be closed later this summer as the project enters its final phase \u2014 with most traffic being redirected to Route 926.<\/p>\n

The roundabout, which was designed by Pocopson Township, will be the first built by PennDOT in southeastern Pennsylvania. There are currently five other roundabouts in the Philadelphia region that were constructed by a municipality or private developers.<\/p>\n

Road-Con Inc. of West Chester, is the general contractor on the\u00a0$2,151,848.35<\/a>\u00a0project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The project is scheduled to finish in September 2014.<\/p>\n

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting\u00a0www.511PA.com<\/a>. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 680 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available by calling 5-1-1, and regional Twitter alerts are available on the 511PA website.<\/p>\n
