Jacalyn Beam is one of two plein air painters featured in a show opening on Friday at the Chadds Ford Gallery.<\/p><\/div>\n

CHADDS FORD \u2013 The Chadds Ford Gallery will open\u00a0\u201c<\/i>A Showing of Recent Artworks by Jacalyn Beam and Nancy Tankersley\u201d\u00a0<\/i>on Friday, April 11, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m.; the exhibit will continue through Sunday, April 27.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Born in Chester County, Jacalyn Beam\u2019s early training in art was rooted in the history and beauty of the Brandywine Valley.\u00a0 Holding a bachelor\u2019s in music, her passion for painting was influenced by a few of her favorite artists Wyeth, Sorolla, Sargent, Schofield and Thayer.\u00a0 A member of the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Society, the Chadds Ford Historical Society, where she chairs its annual Winter Plein Air Event, which features works created in a single sitting.\u00a0 Beam is included in the book \u201c100 Mid-Atlantic Plein Air<\/i>Painters,\u201d\u00a0<\/i>scheduled for release in 2014, a gallery news release said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI paint outdoors because the world is rich with beauty and it\u2019s the optimal way to see three-dimensional objects, the subtleties of light and shadows, atmospheric perspective and real colors,\u201d said Beam.\u00a0 \u201cPlein air painting is also a lot of fun!\u00a0 You meet new friends \u2013 animal and human \u2013 have fleeting conversations with bicyclists and joggers, while experiencing the sounds and smells of the outdoors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Works by Nancy Tankersley will be part of an exhibit opening at the Chadds Ford Gallery.<\/p><\/div>\n

Award-winning artist Nancy Tankersley\u2019s love of the Chesapeake Bay area is evident in many of her landscapes, while painting\u00a0en plein air\u00a0<\/i>as often as possible.\u00a0<\/i>A contemporary impressionist<\/i>exhibiting from the Mid-Atlantic coast to California, Tankersley is a signature member of Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters, member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters, the Salmagundi Club of New York City, Oil Painters of America and American Impressionist Society.<\/p>\n

In addition to exhibiting in many one-person exhibits, Tankersley was honored to be selected as one of two painters from the Eastern Shore to be part of a show titled,\u00a0\u201cMaking Art: Explorations in<\/i>\u00a0Process\u201d<\/i>\u00a0at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Md., the release said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it is important for contemporary artists to capture the land and the people as they are today,\u201d said Tankersley. \u201cI do not try to romanticize or invent my subjects, but I do try to show the beauty of the ordinary.\u00a0 People engaged in their occupations, enjoying their leisure time by eating, shopping or just strolling down a street \u2026 all of these are ordinary subjects which can make extraordinary paintings.\u201d<\/p>\n
