Kids 14 and under can run in Thursday’s Kids’ Cross Country Run at Anson B. Nixon Park, the first of many events planned for this summer and fall by the Kennett Area Park and Recreation Board.<\/p><\/div>\n

KENNETT \u2014 The Kennett Area Park and Recreation Board is swinging into a busy summer and fall schedule of events, kicking off this week with 2014 Kids Cross Country Race,<\/p>\n

Later this year, KAPRB will put on the the Mushroom Festival 5K Race, and KAPRB Summer and Fall programs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

First up is the KAPRB Kids Cross Country Run:\u00a0\u00a0This event is scheduled for this Thursday, July 17a t Anson B. Nixon Park.\u00a0 Children will run a 1.5 mile race course as part of the free event for\u00a0any child ages 14 and under who would like to run. Prizes, drinks, ice cream and tee shirts will be distributed to runners. Event winners will receive trophies. Registration begins at 6 pm with the race starting at 7 pm. Pre-registration is greatly appreciated.\u00a0 Forms can be downloaded from\u00a0www.kaprb.com<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0www.kaprb.ticketleap.com<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The next big event this year is the \u00a0KAPRB Mushroom Festival Race.\u00a0\u00a0The seventh\u00a0Annual Mushroom Festival\/KAPRB 5K Run and two-Mile Walk \u00a0will take place on Sunday, Sept. 7. The race start time is 8:30am. Runners will start at Kennett High School and proceed down South Street to Route 82.\u00a0 Runners will continue down Route 82 going just past Manfreidi Drive, and then turn around to head back to KHS.\u00a0 Registration forms are available online at\u00a0www.mushroomfestival.org<\/a>\u00a0.\u00a0 All proceeds from this event go back to local charities and non profit organizations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In addition to these two big running events, there are a complete schedule of KAPRB Summer Clinics:<\/p>\n

KAPRB Fall Programs include:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

KAPRB Volleyball Program.\u00a0Registration is now open for children in grades 2-6 to learn volleyball skills and game strategy. Children enjoy fun scrimmages!\u00a0 Practices will be held twice weekly in September and October\u00a0 Registration forms at\u00a0www.kaprb.com<\/a>\u00a0or register online at\u00a0www.bluedemonssports.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

KAPRB Field Hockey Program.\u00a0 NEW!\u00a0KAPRB Blue Demons Field Hockey is kicking off this fall!!!\u00a0 The program is open to student athletes, grades 1st<\/sup>-6th<\/sup>, residing in the Kennett Consolidated School District.\u00a0 Our mission as a non-profit organization is to provide a fun, safe and competitive environment devoted to promoting educational, recreational and competitive field hockey activities for elementary & middle school students.<\/p>\n

Our Field Hockey program will be structured similar to girls lacrosse with three age groups:\u00a0 Grades 1 \/2, Grades 3 \/ 4, and Grades 5 \/ 6.\u00a0 We will have a combination of practices and games at all levels against other local leagues.\u00a0 Grades 1 \/ 2 will have about 4 days of games, while the 3 \/4s and 5 \/ 6s will have about 7-8 days of games.<\/p>\n

Registration for Fall opens on June 20th<\/sup>\u00a0and closes August 22nd<\/sup>. The season runs from September 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0through mid November with 1-2 practices during the week and games Saturday mornings.
