{"id":12772,"date":"2014-08-01T10:50:43","date_gmt":"2014-08-01T14:50:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=12772"},"modified":"2014-08-01T09:59:22","modified_gmt":"2014-08-01T13:59:22","slug":"kennett-middle-school-welcomes-new-assistant-principal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=12772","title":{"rendered":"Kennett Middle School welcomes new assistant principal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><em><b>Jeremy Hritz to greets students this fall<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><b>By Kim Chiomento,<\/b><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"><em> Correspondent, The Times<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_903188\" style=\"width: 265px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/HritzKMS-255x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-903188\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-903188\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/HritzKMS-255x300.jpg\" alt=\"HritzKMS\" width=\"255\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-903188\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jeremy Hritz is the new assistant principal at Kennett Middle School.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>LANDENBERG \u2013 This year\u2019s back to school buzz, &#8211;texts, tweets and social media posts, is certain to be filled with extra curiosity for Kennett Middle School\u00a0 (KMS) students \u00a0who, in just a few weeks, will meet their new Assistant Principal, Jeremy Hritz.<\/p>\n<p>For KMS students, the relationship with their AP and Principal is special. \u00a0Each Principal serves as a mentor, disciplinarian, liaison and \u201ctravels\u201d with their assigned class for the duration of their academic journey through KMS.\u00a0 And, each makes a conscious effort to personally know their students; providing a tangible connection to school leadership while also fostering a strong sense of belonging to the KMS community.\u00a0\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Hritz is replacing former KMS -Assistant Principal, Karen Gerlach, who has retired; and he will be assigned to the eighth grade class.\u00a0 Hritz has an accomplished academic and professional profile; he holds a Bachelor\u2019s Degree (English) &#8211; Penn State University, Master\u2019s Degree (Liberal Arts) \u2013 Lock Haven University, Master\u2019s Degree (School Leadership) \u2013 Wilmington University, and most recently defended and completed a Doctorate in Educational Leadership-Wilmington University.\u00a0 This fall, Hritz will begin working on his third Master\u2019s Degree focusing on Special Education.<\/p>\n<p>A native of Pittsburgh, Hritz travelled east and served as a Cecil County, MD high school Assistant Principal for 4 1\/2 years. \u00a0He also taught high school English for 5 \u00bd years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love the Kennett area,\u201d says Hritz, \u201cThe community is incredibly special; very welcoming and involved.\u00a0 I am honored to have the privilege to serve them as a KMS Assistant Principal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about working with KMS students, he was passionate, \u201cMy priority at KMS is the safety, growth, and success of students. I am excited to meet them and to do everything I can to support and motivate them to have an outstanding learning experience.\u00a0 I am also committed to working closely with parents to ensure they are involved in the process here at KMS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his free time, Hritz enjoys spending time with his wife, Andrea, and training for marathons.\u00a0 Hritz can be found going for long runs in Anson B. Nixon Park Saturday mornings.\u00a0 He also loves to read and write, and his Pittsburgh roots still run deep; he remains a loyal Steelers fan.<\/p>\n<p>KMS received the 2014 Governor\u2019s Award for Academic Excellence, was recently honored nationally as a \u201cSchool to Watch,\u201d and has received additional accolades from <i>Newswee<\/i>k and the <i>Pittsburgh Business Times<\/i>.\u00a0 Approximately 1,000 Kennett area students, in grades 6-8, attend KMS.
