{"id":13088,"date":"2014-09-10T11:50:41","date_gmt":"2014-09-10T15:50:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=13088"},"modified":"2014-09-10T11:21:58","modified_gmt":"2014-09-10T15:21:58","slug":"good-news-prevails-as-school-board-reconvenes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=13088","title":{"rendered":"Good news prevails as school board reconvenes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><em><b>KCSD Board of Education holds first meeting of 2014\/2015 school year<\/b><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><b>By Kim Chiomento<\/b>, <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">Staff Writer, <i>The Times<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_941280\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/KennettSchoolBoard-300x219.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-941280\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-941280\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/KennettSchoolBoard-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"KennettSchoolBoard\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-941280\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Kennett Consolidated School District Board of Education held it&#8217;s first meeting ofthe new school year, Monday night at Kennett High School.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>KENNETT &#8211; The Kennett Consolidated School District (KCSD) held its first School Board meeting of 2014\/2015 school year Monday evening in the Kennett High School Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Superintendent of Schools Dr. Barry Tomasetti, opened the meeting by enthusiastically underscoring the district\u2019s recent recognition in <i>Newsweek Magazine<\/i> and its PA Department of Education District Profile Score of 94.4% which places KCSD in the top 7% of schools state-wide.\u00a0 Additionally, Tomasetti recognized Kennett High School\u2019s (KHS) many Advance Placement (AP) Scholars and their achievements and thanked the teachers, parents and students \u201cwho continue to make the KCSD a great place to learn.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Second readings and approvals were completed on the following School Board Policy Sections: 322 \u2013 Gifts (employees), 337-Vacation (employees), 343-Paid Holidays (employees), 810.2 Transportation-Video\/Audio Recording (operations), 903 Public Participation in Board Meetings.\u00a0 Of note, additional discussion was dedicated to section 322 defining and interpreting \u201cexcessive.\u201d\u00a0 Also, New Garden Township resident, Jim Diluzio, was granted time to provide opposing opinion on proposed changes to Section 903.<\/p>\n<p>Board members provided updates on five Committees:\u00a0 Curriculum, Facilities &amp; Operations, Finance, Liaison &amp; Communication, and Personnel.\u00a0\u00a0 Special note was made by Mr. Perigo, on behalf of the Facilities &amp; Operations Committee, that 21 improvement projects were completed in various KCSD schools this summer.<\/p>\n<p>The August 2014 Enrollment Report lists 4,247 students registered within the district, an increase of 43 students over the August 2013 report.\u00a0 Board President, Heather Schaen, noted that KCSD strives to maintain a student to teacher ratio of 22:1 in grades K thru 3 and 25:1 in upper elementary grades with few exceptions.<\/p>\n<p>KHS Student Council representative, Thomas Spell, said \u201cThe school year is off to a great start,\u201d and complemented the many KHS student who volunteered at last weekend\u2019s Mushroom Festival.
