Kennett’s Morgan Kellmeier, seen in action for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, will be honored as the school’s female Freshman Athlete of the Year for 2013-14.<\/p><\/div>\n

TROY, N.Y. – The year-end Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) athletic department awards \u2013 the highest honors bestowed by the department \u2013 for the 2013-14 season have been announced and six student-athletes have garnered recognition, including Kennett native Morgan Kollmeier, who was honored the schools female freshman athlete of the year.<\/p>\n

Kollmeier, who played for Kennett High School, won the award after her strong first season on the RPI\u00a0s<\/b>oftball team. The outfielder was third on the Engineers with a .346 batting average with club-high 12 doubles, a home run, 29 runs scored and 18 runs batted in. She also had a .456 slugging percentage and .419 on-base percentage. She was honored as a Liberty League Rookie of the Week and earned All-Liberty League Second Team.<\/p>\n

She will be honored next month along with: \u00a0Grace Tilton ’14 (cross country\/track & field) and Zac Borellli ’14 (track & field) were selected as the Richard S. Lyon Career Athletes of the Class of 2014; Meg Colitz ’14 (lacrosse) and\u00a0Ryan Haggerty ’15 (hockey) were chosen the Athletes of the Year; and\u00a0Breanainn McNeally\u00a0’17\u00a0(lacrosse) captured Freshman of the Year. Awards are presented to one female and one male in each category.<\/p>\n

Also announced was the department’s Marvin Anderson Award as Coach of the Year to Leslie DeLano, the women’s lacrosse coach who earned the honor for the third straight year. All awards are voted on by RPI coaches and athletic department administrators.<\/p>\n

The six standout student-athletes include \u00a0combined for three New York State Performer of the Year awards, two Liberty League Performer of the Year awards and a Regional Performer of the Year award. There were six All-League honors, three All-Region, two National All-America and a Capital One National Academic All-America.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
