Stephen Barrar<\/p><\/div>\n<p>HARRISBURG \u2014 State Rep. Stephen E. Barrar (R-160)\u00a0was assigned to serve on the House Consumer Affairs Committee during the 2015-16 legislative session. Barrar will also serve as the chairman of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing a member of the Consumer Affairs Committee will allow me to take the issues and problems that face my constituents who are dealing with consumer matters to the legislative table,\u201d Barrar said in a statement. \u201cI will be able to help craft and mold legislation, alongside my colleagues, that will address issues such as identity theft, malpractices of debt collection agencies and the like. It is an honor to be a part of such an important committee that will make an incredible difference in people\u2019s daily lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The committees provide legislative oversight and help shape the language in bills that fall under their areas of responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>The House\u00a0Consumer Affairs\u00a0Committee reviews all legislation that protects buyers, such as the Credit Card Information Act, Pennsylvania Automobile Lemon Law and Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law.<\/p>\n<p>Barrar will continue as the majority chairman for the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, which oversees legislation dealing with veterans\u2019 issues, disaster relief, homeland security, fire and emergency services matters, and the readiness of our Pennsylvania National Guard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also look forward to continuing my service to Pennsylvania\u2019s veterans and first responders,\u201d said Barrar. \u201cWith the new session comes new goals to accomplish.
