{"id":17019,"date":"2015-09-04T11:15:07","date_gmt":"2015-09-04T15:15:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=17019"},"modified":"2015-09-04T10:52:25","modified_gmt":"2015-09-04T14:52:25","slug":"united-way-allocates-95k-to-five-new-vital-community-service-progams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=17019","title":{"rendered":"United Way allocates\u00a0$95K to five new vital community service programs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WEST CHESTER<em>\u2014 <\/em>United Way of Chester County welcomes five new service programs to an existing network of over 60 funded\u00a0 programs under the Community Impact Fund.\u00a0 $95,000 has been allocated to support the new programs each year for a two year period, under United Way\u2019s education and health initiatives. United Way\u2019s network is extensive but the work is local providing education, health, and financial services that help approximately one in four Chester County residents. The following new program additions will provide valuable new tools and resources to help Chester County children and their families\/caregivers build the foundation for a successful future.<a href=\"http:\/\/managewp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/liveunited.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1175423\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/liveunited-300x46.png\" alt=\"liveunited\" width=\"280\" height=\"43\" \/><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Youth Mental Health First Aid Program of Brandywine Health Foundation- <\/strong>Trains adults working with Chester County youth about the risk factors and warning signs of teen mental health issues like anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and addictions to promote early detection and intervention.<\/li>\n<li><strong>New Directions Program of Charles A. Melton Arts and Education Center-<\/strong> After school program that helps children in elementary and middle schools practice academic skills through tutoring and homework assistance; develops socialization and coping skills; positive self-image; and relationship building between students, counselors, and parents.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Service Corps Program of Coatesville Youth Initiative- <\/strong>field-tested program that serves 40 low-income young people, ages 14-18 by combining 8 weeks of paid employment with a challenging leadership development curriculum and a day of volunteer service.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Family Movement Program of Chester County Women\u2019s Services- <\/strong>free incentive-based classes for at-risk parents that includes two main curriculums: Parenting 101 and Essentials of Discipline. Participants earn points for attendance and participation which goes towards material support such as diapers, wipes, clothes, formula, or a crib, stroller, or car seat.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Friend Fitness Program of Youth Mentoring Partnership- <\/strong>physical fitness and goal setting program matching volunteer mentors with at risk youth grades 6-12 of varying fitness levels, personal backgrounds, and life circumstances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited about expanding our reach and impact to further help our youngest residents,\u201d added Claudia Hellebush, United Way of Chester County CEO. \u201cEvery child deserves the building blocks and support system of the collective community to help overcome obstacles and achieve success.\u201d\u00a0 United Way of Chester County requires that every program under the Community Impact Fund is comprehensively vetted to ensure not only the program\u2019s success but the success of the individual and ultimately the community at large. More than 50 volunteers from across the county review agency budgets, programs, and measurement outcomes to ensure that invested dollars have the most impact.
