{"id":17458,"date":"2015-10-21T10:30:43","date_gmt":"2015-10-21T14:30:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=17458"},"modified":"2015-10-21T10:19:54","modified_gmt":"2015-10-21T14:19:54","slug":"barn-at-spring-brook-farm-celebrating-nine-years-of-serving-area-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=17458","title":{"rendered":"Barn at Spring Brook Farm \u2013 celebrating nine years of serving area children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><em><strong>Saturday&#8217;s Hoe Down\u00a0fundraiser to help continue to fund programs<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">By Kim Chiomento<\/span><\/strong>, <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"><em>News Editor, The Times<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>POCOPSON \u2013 For many families in our region, the Barn at Spring Brook Farm is a unique place where a type of \u2018magic\u2019 happens all year long.\u00a0 Thanks to its nearly 250 volunteers, energized board of directors and caring staff, the Barn now assists an impressive 300 special needs children annually; placing a keen focus on those with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.<\/p>\n<p>Rolling pastures, loving animals, peaceful gardens, serene nature trails and a handicap-accessible big red barn, create an enchanted backdrop that embraces a diverse group of clients; many of whom travel from across the entire Philadelphia region, and northern Delaware, to experience this one of a kind place.<a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/barn3-214x300.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1204755\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/barn3-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"barn3\" \/><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In 2006, Mary Beth Drobish founded The Barn when she sought a way to combine her passion for animals with her love for children. \u00a0The Barn has grown to host the popular summertime Camp Geronimo program, field trips, socialization events and individual visits; all incorporating animal-assisted activities for the purpose of enhancing children\u2019s knowledge, confidence and physical well-being.\u00a0 In addition, The Barn also seeks to serve parents and caregivers through a series of ongoing expert panel discussions which share information on disability-related topics.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1204758\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/barn-2-300x225.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1204758\" class=\"wp-image-1204758 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/barn-2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"barn 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1204758\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(L-R) Dr. Suzanne Levy, Emily McClure and Alanna Piser enjoying the Hoe Down sponsor reception hosted by Ann and Steve Hutton.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Board member, Lauren Powelson, explains, \u201cI am just so enthused about all the innovative programs we are offering at The Barn\u2026There is so much excitement from many new volunteers and tremendous momentum from our board and the Barn&#8217;s awesome staff. It is a <em>great<\/em> way to head into our tenth anniversary serving children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fall is an especially important time when it comes to supporting The Barn\u2019s mission. This Saturday, October 24, from 6-10 PM, The Barn will host its annual Hoe Down, Harvest Festival and Auction all held on its stunning property located at 350 Locust Grove Road, West Chester.
