To <\/span>the Editor:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Letters1\"<\/a>While every election is an important event, an opportunity to renew <\/span>our individual commitment to our individual and community values, this election in Kennett T<\/span>ownship is especially so. This is a year where <\/span>the electorate nationwide is confused and frustrated. Outsiders with bombastic promises <\/span>and outlandish charges promise unrealistic <\/span>and inappropriate <\/span>change. This approach <\/span>at the state and federal levels is foolish and danger<\/span>ous; it is equally so at the\u00a0t<\/span>ownship level wher<\/span>e the choice is between vision and empty charge.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beginning four years ago, and particularly during the last two years, responsive <\/span>and open gover<\/span>nment r<\/span>e-emer<\/span>ged in Kennett T<\/span>ownship. Let me mention four of many examples. I campaigned on the concer<\/span>n that\u00a0t<\/span>ownship finances needed to be addr<\/span>essed. Y<\/span>ou will r<\/span>ecall the nonsense of the non-audit. Since that time this situation tur<\/span>ned ar<\/span>ound. T<\/span>ranspar<\/span>ency and openness are <\/span>the rule, professional <\/span>support and guidance the practice. A ‘real’ <\/span>audit occurr<\/span>ed for each of the past four years and the r<\/span>ecommendations of that auditor<\/span>, and of the Business Advisory Committee (also a new innovation), were <\/span>implemented. That included setting up and following a true reserve <\/span>system to define and fund for the future infrastructure <\/span>needs of the T<\/span>ownship. As a consequence, the unstructur<\/span>ed and uncommitted pool of cash is substantially gone, left with a significantly reduced <\/span>but adequate surplus reserve <\/span>for unanticipated needs.<\/p>\n

While Whitney Ho\ufb00man supports this fiscal prudence, Ted <\/span>Moxon irresponsibly <\/span>riles T<\/span>ownship r<\/span>esidents, telling them that we hold 20 million dollars in cash, which, of course, we do not.<\/p>\n

The current board <\/span>instituted a plan for open space and conservation easements. It defined what the priorities of the\u00a0t<\/span>ownship wer<\/span>e and began the implementation of this vision. It included sidewalks and trails, a necessity for a well managed community. <\/span>As a consequence, a significant easement purchase occurred <\/span>that supports the vision of a ‘green’ <\/span>township, open to the use of the community, <\/span>a vision of a connected regional <\/span>system. Additional purchases are <\/span>planned. The reality <\/span>of that vision can be experienced by walking or biking along Chandler Mill Road and contemplating the forthcoming re-opening <\/span>of Chandler Mill Bridge.<\/p>\n

Whitney Ho\ufb00man shares <\/span>this vision of open space, conservation, and sidewalks and trails. Ted <\/span>Moxon opposes this vision and interferes <\/span>in the ordered process <\/span>mandated by law.<\/span><\/p>\n

Y<\/span>our curr<\/span>ent supervisors have committed to a plan for sensible development in the township, one that includes both thoughtful managed r<\/span>esidential gr<\/span>owth, but also economic and commercial growth. Ways <\/span>Lane needs to be addressed <\/span>and new businesses encouraged. But that growth <\/span>should not over burden <\/span>the infrastructure, <\/span>and should not unreasonably <\/span>tax the school system. This plan is designed to increase <\/span>the tax base but not increase <\/span>the tax burden.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whitney Ho\ufb00man supports managed gr<\/span>owth in the\u00a0t<\/span>ownship and o\ufb00er<\/span>ed a well r<\/span>easoned\u00a0and documented appr<\/span>oach for high speed inter<\/span>net availability to support the\u00a0t<\/span>ownship plan. Ted <\/span>Moxon o\ufb00ers nothing.<\/p>\n

At the outcry of the r<\/span>esidents of the\u00a0t<\/span>ownship against unr<\/span>egulated shooting, this Boar<\/span>d of Supervisors investigated the concern and enacted an ordinance <\/span>for the safe use of firearms. <\/span>While it gr<\/span>ew out of the expr<\/span>essed concer<\/span>n of the\u00a0t<\/span>ownship r<\/span>esidents for a r<\/span>easonable standard <\/span>for gun use safety, <\/span>it also followed the example of other thoughtful Pennsylvania municipalities which also faced a need to address unfettered <\/span>gun use in a non rural and populated community. <\/span>That ‘expressed <\/span>concern’ grew <\/span>out of numerous <\/span>public discussions.<\/p>\n

Whitney Ho\ufb00man was one of the many residents <\/span>who supported enacting a reasonable <\/span>safety standard. Ted <\/span>Moxon, one of three <\/span>or four opposed to any standard, <\/span>consistently espoused the NRA mantra, blindly ignoring resident safety.<\/span><\/p>\n

Much has happened in the past four years in Kennett T<\/span>ownship, but much r<\/span>emains to be addressed. <\/span>This continuing progress <\/span>will depend on who is elected as Supervisor this November<\/span>. I write to endorse Whitney Ho\ufb00man. I believe she is the most capable of the two candidates. I believe she has the most heart and commitment to serve. I believe she has the vision and understanding to embrace the challenge. She is the person I want to sit with me as Supervisor of Kennett T<\/span>ownship.<\/p>\n
