A new taxiway constructed at New Garden Flying Field promises to increase efficiency and safety<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>NEW GARDEN\u2014While development concerning the creation of new hangars at New Garden airport continues, the construction of a brand new taxiway has just been completed, with only the line painting yet to be applied.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe airport never had a full parallel taxiway. So the Bureau of Aviation felt it was high on their priority list to put in a parallel taxiway for safety purposes,\u201d said Airport Manager Jonathan Martin. \u201cEssentially what we had prior to that was aircraft landing on the runway and back taxiing while other aircraft were trying to land. For obvious reasons that\u2019s not a safe way of doing things. With a parallel taxiway we can have an aircraft land and exit the runway while another aircraft is landing and have another one back taxi to the ramp. It facilitates the overall flow of the airport.\u201d<\/p>\n

The completion of the project represents the culmination of a three phase project initiated in 2009. Phase 1 consisted of designing the layout; phase 2 initiated the earth moving effort; and the recently completed phase 3 saw the final paving of the taxiway.<\/p>\n

As for the hangar project, Martin says the developers are still actively working towards constructions, though there is not a set date for groundbreaking as of yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf everything works out as planned, by summer, we\u2019ll have a few new hangar facilities out here\u2026the developer is working on the permitting and everything he needs to do on his end through the township and the conservation district.\u201d<\/p>\n
