A 250-foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will visit East Brandywine this summer.<\/p><\/div>\n

EAST BRANDYWINE \u2014 Hopewell United Methodist Church <\/span>(UMC) and East Brandywine Township <\/span>will play host <\/span>this summer <\/span>to The <\/i><\/span>Wall<\/i> <\/i>That Heals<\/i>, a 250-foot <\/span>replica of <\/span>the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. <\/span>Part of <\/span>a national tour, <\/span>the replica <\/span>memorial wall and accompanying mobile education <\/span>center will be on display <\/span>throughout the day and night, <\/span>from July 28th<\/span> to August 1<\/span>st <\/span>at East Brandywine Township <\/span>Community Park, <\/span>440 Dilworth Road.<\/p>\n

In anticipation <\/span>of the event, Hopewell <\/span>UMC and East Brandywine Township are inviting <\/span>all Chester County residents <\/span>to an informational <\/span>meeting at the <\/span>East Brandywine Township municipal building, 1214 Horseshoe <\/span>Pike, Downingtown, on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. <\/span>The meeting <\/span>will outline <\/span>plans for the exhibit, including <\/span>volunteer opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an <\/span>exciting opportunity for <\/span>Chester County <\/span>residents to experience the impact of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, <\/span>and we are asking for<\/span> volunteers to help <\/span>with visitor assistance <\/span>and security <\/span>during this leg of <\/span>the tour,\u201d said Sandy Lammey, Chair of East<\/p>\n

Brandywine Township\u2019s <\/span>Parks & Recreation <\/span>Committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe <\/span>Wall is <\/span>the most visited memorial<\/p>\n

in Washington <\/span>D.C. and <\/span>bears the names <\/span>of the more than <\/span>58,000 men <\/span>and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is <\/span>a privilege <\/span>to have <\/span>been selected to host <\/span>the Wall<\/i> <\/i>that<\/i> <\/i>Heals<\/i> <\/i>and to provide <\/span>an opportunity <\/span>for all residents <\/span>– especially <\/span>local veterans and <\/span>their families \u2013 to see the memorial<\/p>\n

Since its debut in 1996, <\/span>more than <\/span>two million <\/span>people have <\/span>visited The <\/i><\/span>Wall<\/i> <\/i>That<\/i> <\/i>Heals<\/i> <\/i>sites. It <\/span>has made stops in nearly <\/span>400 U.S. communities in <\/span>addition to a tour of Ireland and a visit to Canada. Hosting The <\/i><\/span>Wall<\/i> <\/i>That<\/i> Heals <\/i>provides <\/span>area residents with a multi-day educational experience <\/span>on the history <\/span>of the Vietnam era and <\/span>The Wall. <\/span>The exhibit includes <\/span>a mobile education <\/span>center comprised of: photos of service members whose <\/span>names are found on <\/span>The Wall; letters <\/span>and memorabilia <\/span>left at The Wall in <\/span>D.C.; a map of Vietnam and a chronological <\/span>overview of the conflict in Vietnam. <\/span>The exhibits <\/span>tell the story of the <\/span>Vietnam War, The Wall<\/span><\/p>\n
