After much work and dedication the Township planted 13,000 hybrid lily bulbs, 150 rose bushes, and mulched and watered the area so that this Spring, an eye-catching display was in full bloom for both residents and tourist traffic to enjoy.<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000;\">The township won first place in the Keep American Beautiful National Awards, with runners up from Glendale,CA and New Orleans,LA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Keep America Beautiful, Inc. describes itself as the nation&#8217;s largest volunteer-based community action and education organization; with a\u00a0network of more than 1,200 affiliate and participating organizations, KAB forms public-private partnerships and programs that engage individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community&#8217;s environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000;\">KAB judges projects in three categories: litter prevention, beautification, and waste reduction. The group gives awards to four types of entities: businesses, schools, government, and civic non-profit. These awards were presented at KAB\u2019s 58<sup>th<\/sup> annual National Conference, held inLouisiana.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000;\">\u201cI would like to applaud the EAC, Longwood Gardens for its contributions, and the Lions Club Volunteers who made this happen, particularly Joe Poppiti and Juergen Steininger,\u201d Township Supervisor Bob Hammaker said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kennett Township and key residents honored with first place award from Keep America Beautiful By P.J.
