{"id":21582,"date":"2016-10-12T08:18:24","date_gmt":"2016-10-12T12:18:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=21582"},"modified":"2016-10-12T08:18:25","modified_gmt":"2016-10-12T12:18:25","slug":"letter-voters-have-a-clear-choice-in-the-158th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=21582","title":{"rendered":"Letter: Voters have a clear choice in the 158th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><strong>To the Editor,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Letters1-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2057\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Letters1-3.jpg\" alt=\"letters1\" width=\"200\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a>The voters in the PA House 158<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0district will be choosing a new state representative\u00a0<a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/5\"><span class=\"s3\">on November 8<\/span><span class=\"s4\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><\/a>, since Chris Ross is retiring.\u00a0 We have been waiting for many months to see and read Republican candidate Eric Roe\u2019s positions.\u00a0 Finally, his campaign published three position papers, on \u201cLife, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.\u201d On Oct 2<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><sup>nd<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0his Party or his handlers had him take those position papers down.\u00a0How can we trust a candidate who won\u2019t or can\u2019t honestly say what he believes and then stand behind it?<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We know from his own resume that Eric has spent the last eight years\u00a0working in seven political jobs in DC. He recently moved back here and rented an apartment to start what he hopes is a long political career, but the last thing we need in Harrisburg is someone who was trained in Washington.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In case you are wondering, his website statements included: \u201cAbortion is proof that our society has failed women\u201d. On state pensions, he said he \u201cwill fight to reduce our liability and fund it fully, preferably through a 401(k) style plan\u201d, not understanding that the transition costs have been proven to make this impossible without unconstitutionally reducing current promised benefits.\u00a0 He would also burden taxpayers and school districts with yet another unfunded mandate by putting \u201cpressure on the Pennsylvania Department of Education to change its curricula and increase awareness in our classrooms\u201d of drug addiction. Eric Roe is too extreme for Chester County and too unfamiliar with the needs of the people.<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ironically, two very moderate issues that Republican Chris Ross was well known and liked for \u2013 namely allowing women rather than government to make their own health choices, and his strong renewable energy policies, are ones that Eric Roe opposes. \u00a0Is this why he was hiding his positions now? Is this why his Party pulled them off his website? Doesn\u2019t he have the strength of his convictions to proudly share his beliefs or is it not politically expedient to show who he really is and what he really believes?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Roe\u2019s opponent, Susan Rzucidlo, on the other hand, has had position papers up on her website from the beginning of the campaign. She is so dedicated to transparency she gives her personal cell phone number to voters. She says it\u2019s because if you want to represent the people, you need to be accessible to the people. Susan is a small business owner and long-time Chester County advocate for people who live with special needs, seniors and veterans, and she does care about the same issues \u00a0that the voters of Chester County do &#8211; environment, property tax reform, economic fairness, and public education.\u00a0 Susan understands the issues facing Chester County and Pennsylvania and has earned the respect of Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike because she is willing to listen, takes time to learn the issues, and fights for people.\u00a0 It\u2019s been said about Susan, \u201cshe\u2019s\u00a0not by any means a politician &#8230; but more of a reformer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/7\">On November 8<span class=\"s5\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><\/a><\/span><span class=\"s6\">, you\u2019ll have to decide &#8211; do you want a candidate who hides who he is, or someone, like Susan Rzucidlo, who has a proven record of getting results and fighting for people?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Brian J.
