This weekend will be your last chance to check out most of them &#8212; although a few will still be open into the first week of November. The following is a look at many of these events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On October 28, the Laurel Hill Cemetery (3822 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, 215-228-8200, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelaurelhillcemetery.org\/\"><span class=\"s2\">www.thelaurelhillcemetery.org<\/span><\/a>) is hosting a special event called \u201cTrue Tales from the Tombs.\u201d<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On Friday night, performers will entertain visitors with true tales from Laurel Hill Cemetery\u2019s historic tombs. From the desecrated grave of a prestigious doctor to the woman who is buried in two places, \u201cTrue Tales from the Tombs<b>\u201d<\/b> will feature stories of the cemetery\u2019s most provocative and memorable permanent residents, as they return from the dead to tell their stories.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Featuring The Not Ready for After-Life Players as storytellers of these otherworldly tales, the candlelit tours will follow a path through the stones and mausoleums of Laurel Hill and end with hot cider and cookies. Participants are instructed to bring their own flashlights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Tours, which start at 7 p.m., will last approximately one hour and depart every half-hour, with the final tour departing at 9 p.m. The cost is $20 per person general admission. Tickets can be purchased at the door, by phone or\u00a0online. Upon arrival, guests must register at Laurel Hill Cemetery\u2019s Gatehouse entrance, 3822 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia. Free parking is in the lot directly across the street from the Gatehouse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Laurel Hill will have another special event on October 30 \u2013 \u201cFall Family Day: Halloween Picnic and Parade\u201d from 1-3 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Visitors can spend an autumn afternoon exploring the many wonders and mysteries of Laurel Hill Cemetery while celebrating Halloween. The cemetery\u2019s primary location overlooking the Schuylkill River will offer visitors majestic views of the colorful fall foliage and vibrant landscape along Kelly Drive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Activities will include arts and crafts, a pumpkin patch, Halloween goodies, and hula hoop games with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spincoalition.com\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Spinco<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Attendees are advised to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and children are encouraged to show off their Halloween costumes. This program is recommended for families with children ages 4-12.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The cost is $5 general admission. Visitors can tour historic (and haunted) Fort Mifflin by candlelight from 7-10 p.m. each night and hear tales both historic and haunting on a candlelight tour of National Historic Landmark Fort Mifflin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Widely regarded as one of the most haunted sites in the country, Fort Mifflin shares true stories of paranormal activity experienced by decades of visitors and staff &#8212; no decorations, no blood\u2026. just real ghosts. This event is billed as an \u201cauthentic experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Tours are generally appropriate for ages 8-and-older. Tours last about an hour and depart from the Hospital Building (adjacent to the Parking Lot) every 15-20 minutes beginning at 7 p.m. The last tour departs at 10 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for students (12 and under).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/kennett-Halloween-Poster.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2235\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/kennett-Halloween-Poster-193x300.png\" alt=\"kennett-halloween-poster\" width=\"193\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>On October 30, the Kennett Square Merchants will present the annual Kennett Square Halloween Parade in the downtown area of the borough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The parade, which features floats, troupes and individuals, will move along State Street from Center Street to Broad Street.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Starting time for the parade is 3 p.m. and it is expected to last approximately one hour and then the fun will continue a few blocks away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Following the parade, activity will shift to the annual Brick Garage Haunted House at 501 Penn Avenue where holiday activates will take place from 4-8 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2236\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/linvilla-pumpkinland.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2236\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2236\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/linvilla-pumpkinland-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"'Pumpkinland' at Linvilla Orchards.\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2236\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8216;Pumpkinland&#8217; at Linvilla Orchards.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cPumpkinland\u201d (Linvilla Orchards, 137 West Knowlton Road, Media, 610-876-7116, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linvilla.com\/\"><span class=\"s2\">www.linvilla.com<\/span><\/a>), which is open through November 6, features fairy tale characters from nursery rhymes along with a huge scarecrow and a very tall storybook. Other activities include train rides, a straw bale maze, hayrides, pick-your-own apples and pony rides. Another attraction is \u201cHayride to the Witch\u2019s House.\u201d Admission is free and hayrides are $9 per person.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On October 30, Linvilla is featuring its annual \u201cCostume Parade.\u201d The event will be hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.makinmusic.com\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Makin&#8217; Music<\/span><\/a> and feature participants with fun and creative costumes. Each child receives a treat and great prizes are awarded to three winners from each age group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Activities begin at noon and include a dance party at 1:30 p.m., a visit from Spiderman at 2 p.m., the parade at 3 p.m. and live music by Makin\u2019 Music at 3:30 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The 52nd Annual Delaware County Halloween Parade (<a href=\"http:\/\/visitmediapa.com\/\"><span class=\"s3\">http:\/\/visitmediapa.com<\/span><\/a>) will start at 2 p.m. on October 29 at the Media Elementary School\u2019s Barrall Field (State and Edgmont streets, Media) and follow a route through downtown through Media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Parade participants will include clowns, community groups, classic and antique cars from the Pennsylvania Historical Car Club and the County Corvette Club, fire engines, high school marching bands and hundreds of walkers in their Halloween costumes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The parade will move from Barrall Field and proceed west on State Street, north on Orange Street and east on Front Street before returning to its starting point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Holiday activities in Media on Saturday will get underway with the \u201cHalloween Extravaganza at the Media Community Center\u201d from 11:30 a.m-1:30 p.m. The event will\u00a0 feature games, food, and goodie bags. Costumes are welcome and prizes will be awarded for best costumes.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2237\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Halloween-odessa.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2237\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2237\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Halloween-odessa-300x137.jpg\" alt=\"Halloween in Odessa\" width=\"300\" height=\"137\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2237\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Halloween in Odessa<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Odessa is an interesting and fun place to visit \u2013 especially when there is a special event presented by the Historic Odessa Foundation (Main Street, Odessa, Delaware, 302- 378-4119, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historicodessa.org\/\"><span class=\"s4\">www.historicodessa.org<\/span><\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On October 30, the Foundation will host \u201cHalloween in Odessa\u201d \u2013 a fun holiday event geared for the entire family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Guests are invited to parade through the garden and bring a carved pumpkin for a pumpkin art contest. As an added attraction, the event, which runs from 2-4 p.m., will have age-appropriate crafts in the Wilson-Warner Stable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHalloween in Odessa\u201d is free and open to the public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Historic Odessa Foundation offers tours to the public, families, groups and schools of its landmark Delaware properties \u2014 the Historic Houses of Odessa. The tour also provides a look at the foundation\u2019s collection of more than 6,000 objects and furnishings that span an interpretive period in regional decorative arts from 1760-1850.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Historic Houses of Odessa are open to the public March through December, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Sunday 1-4:30 p.m. General Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, and free for children (under six).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/halloween-hootenanny.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2238 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/halloween-hootenanny-300x105.jpg\" alt=\"halloween-hootenanny\" width=\"300\" height=\"105\" \/><\/a>The Garden State Discovery Museum (2040 Springdale Road, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, 856-424-1233,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.discoverymuseum.com\/\"><span class=\"s5\">www.discoverymuseum.com<\/span><\/a>) is holding its Third Annual Halloween Hootenanny on October 28 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This Halloween Event, which has been designed especially for young children, is an evening of happily haunted surprises.\u00a0The night will be filled with one-of-a-kind Discovery Museum fun including spooky crafts, inside and outside trick-or-treating, activities, music and fun for all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Local families and businesses will be lined up and down the Discovery Museum parking lot with their Halloween themed cars and decorated trunks for families to go from trunk-to-trunk to get Halloween treats. Kids will also be able to bounce the night away in the moon bounce.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Inside, the Discovery Museum has been decorated in its Halloween best.\u00a0On the Museum floor, each of the exhibits is decked out in a happily haunted manner. Kids can trick-or-treat from exhibit to exhibit and they will get anything from candy to Halloween tricks and goodies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Admission to Halloween Hootenanny&#8217;s inside and outside attractions is $20 for children and $5 for adults.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On October 29, the Norristown Preservation Society will host its annual Haunted House at Selma Mansion (1301 West Airy Street., Norristown, 610-613-4024, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.norristownpreservationsociety.org\/\"><span class=\"s3\">http:\/\/www.norristownpreservationsociety.org<\/span><\/a>) from 7-9 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The mansion, which has been the site of paranormal investigations for years, will be decorated for Halloween and creatures of the night &#8212; ghosts, ghouls, zombies &#8212; will roam the halls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The night will feature lantern-lit guided tours and ghost stories. Tours will be continuous.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children aged 5-12, seniors, veterans &#8212; free for all active military and officers of the Norristown Police and Fire Departments. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All proceeds will go toward the restoration of Selma Mansion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On October 29, Rock Ford Plantation (881 Rockford Rd., Lancaster, 717-392-7223, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rockfordplantation.org\/\"><span class=\"s3\">www.rockfordplantation.org<\/span><\/a>) will host the76th Annual Headless Horseman\u2019s Ball at 6:30 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Guests will joy a spirited evening inspired by Washington Irving\u2019s classic tale, \u201c<i>The Legend of Sleepy Hollow<\/i>.\u201d There will be appearances by Ichabod Crane and other residents of the enchanted town of Sleepy Hollow during the party which is being held in the special event barn and tent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The ball features a catered buffet menu by Pierre DeRagon Personal Chef Services, dancing and DJ music by NovaMagic Entertainment. There will also be a silent auction of exquisite items and one-of-a-kind experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Costumes are optional and, even though the ball has a Sleepy Hollow theme, guests do not have to dress per this theme. Reservations may be made by calling 717-392-7223 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Tickets are $75 per person and includes complimentary bar. All proceeds from the Headless Horseman\u2019s Ball will benefit Rock Ford Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The same story will be featured at a special event on October 29 at Pennypacker Mills (<i>5 Haldeman Road, Schwenksville, 610-287-9349, <\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.montcopa.org\/pennypackermills\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>www.montcopa.org\/pennypackermills<\/i><\/span><\/a><i>)<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe Legend of Sleepy Hollow\u201d program, which will be presented from 3-4:30 p.m., is an<b> <\/b>interactive adaptation of the classic tale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">At the all-ages event, guests will see Ichabod leading the audience in song, and dancing with his love and then follow him on his fateful journey home as he meets the Headless Horseman. Actor Neill Hartley will bring Ichabod to life and answer questions at the end of the performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Admission is free but there is a suggested donation of $2 per person.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation (Ridley Creek State Park, Media, 610-566-1725, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.colonialplantation.org\/\"><span class=\"s2\">www.colonialplantation.org<\/span><\/a>) is presenting two special events this weekend \u2013 \u201cHalloween on the Farm &#8212; Puppet Show\u201d on October 29 and \u201cFarm, House and Animal Tour\u201d on October 30.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">At the \u201cHalloween on the Farm &#8212; Puppet Show,\u201d which will run from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., visitors will be able to celebrate Halloween with the Segal Puppets as they explore the joys of the holiday. Guests are encouraged to wear costumes and visit four locations to receive a treat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The children and adults will also be able to see all our farm animals up close.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Since 1974 the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation has given visitors a glimpse of 18th- century Pennsylvania farm life through group programming, weekend activities and outreach opportunities. Attention to detail and authenticity are the hallmarks of Plantation programs from formal tours and hands-on workshops to the \u201cliving history\u201d approach seen by weekend visitors. Visiting the Plantation is an educational experience that is unique and unforgettable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Because the Plantation is a working farm with authentically restored unheated buildings, it is open from April into early December. No pets are allowed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Admission is $8 for adults and children (ages 4-12) with children (under 4) admitted free.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Penns Woods Winery (124 Beaver Valley Road, Chadds Ford, 610-459-0808, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pennswoodswinery.com\/\"><span class=\"s3\">www.pennswoodswinery.com<\/span><\/a>) is presenting a special event this year called \u201cPainting in Pumpkinland.\u201d It will be held October 29 and 30 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. each day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Participants will be able to choose their pumpkins from the Penns Woods\u00a0Pumpkin\u00a0Patch and decorate them &#8212; Paint them, sticker them, glitter them and more. The cost is $15 -18 per pumpkin <b>(<\/b>depending on size). Price includes pumpkin\u00a0and all decorating materials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Wine by the glass and bottle will be available for all adults over 21 and there will be live music and food trucks. Visitors can take family photos in the winery\u2019s pumpkin\u00a0patch with our historic barn in the background. There will also be other fun Halloween activities for children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Music will be performed by Sean McGraw on October 29 and Jason Ager on October 30.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On October 29, Paradocx Vineyard (1833 Flint Hill Road, Landenberg, 610-444-9003, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paradocx.com\/\"><span class=\"s2\">www.paradocx.com<\/span><\/a>) is hosting its annual \u201cHallo-Wine Party.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The event, which is scheduled to run from 4-8 p.m., will feature live music by FNL, tasty food provided by M&amp;M Catering, craft beer, tastings of Paradocx wine and a bonfire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As an added attraction, the party, which has free admission, will have prizes for the top three costumes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHurricane Hill Farm Maze\u201d (Baldwin\u2019s Farm, 704 East Reeceville Road, Coatesville, 610-384-6952, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hhfmaze.com\/\"><span class=\"s2\">www.hhfmaze.com<\/span><\/a>) will be open Saturdays and Sundays until November 6.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This event features miles of trails through a five-acre corn maze along with a corn slide, hayrides, a pumpkin patch and a farm animal display. They have groomed chrysanthemums to resemble clouds, torches, spirals, fans, 13-foot arches and more. The stars of the show are Longwood Gardens\u2019 \u201cThousand Bloom\u201d mums.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Thousand Bloom (known in Japan as Ozukuri) is the most exacting and difficult of all the Chrysanthemum training styles. It derives its name for the ambitious goal of a single chrysanthemum plant producing 1,000 perfect blooms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The method for growing the Thousand Bloom originated in China and Japan more than 200 years ago. It is a dying art form with only a few growers in the entire world skilled in the techniques needed to grow this special plant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This year, Longwood has the largest chrysanthemum outside of Asia on display. Grown at Longwood, the plant is expected to produce over 1,500 perfectly placed, uniform blooms on one plant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you want to check out \u201cNightscape: A Light and Sound Experience\u201d at Longwood Gardens, you have just two nights left to do it.
