The oldest documented version comes from China, and the oldest European version from Italy.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The most popular version was first published by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charles_Perrault\"><span class=\"s2\">Charles Perrault<\/span><\/a> in \u201c<\/span><span class=\"s3\">Histoires ou contes du temps pass\u00e9<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u201d in 1697 and later by the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brothers_Grimm\"><span class=\"s2\">Brothers Grimm<\/span><\/a> in their folk tale collection \u201cGrimms\u2019<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> Fairy Tales<\/span><span class=\"s1\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The story of Cinderella has formed the basis of many notable works in opera, books, ballet, songs, theater, films, and television.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">As a stage production, \u201cCinderella\u201d debuted as a pantomime on stage at the Drury Lane Theatre, London in 1904 and at the Adelphi Theatre in London in 1905.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cCinderella\u201d by Rodgers and Hammerstein was produced for television three times and staged live. The only Rodgers and Hammerstein musical written for television, it was originally broadcast live on CBS in 1957 as a vehicle for Julie Andrews, who played the title role.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The musical has also been adapted for the stage in a number of versions, including a London <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/West_End_theatre\"><span class=\"s4\">West End<\/span><\/a> pantomime adaptation, a New York City Opera production that follows the original television version closely and several touring productions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">A recent adaptation opened in 2013 on Broadway and now has been followed by a national tour. The highly-entertaining tour will visit the area for a six-day run from February 7-12 at the Playhouse on Rodney Square (10th and Market streets, Wilmington, Delaware, 302-888-0200, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.duponttheatre.com\/\"><span class=\"s4\">www.duponttheatre.com<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3149\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/sarah-primmer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3149\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3149\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/sarah-primmer-350x233.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3149\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sarah Primmer<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe started rehearsing in April,\u201d said Sarah Primmer, during a phone interview Friday from a coffee shop in Manhattan. \u201cI auditioned back in March.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Primmer, a native of Connecticut, plays the role of Madame in the touring production.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe teched the show at Clemson University and then opened in Grand Rapids, Michigan in September.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Not surprisingly, the show was an immediate hit \u2013 capturing the imagination of young audience members and sparking fond memories in older audience members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cMadame is the evil stepmother,\u201d said Primmer, who graduated Cum Laude from Muhlenberg College with a degree in vocal performance and theater.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt is a challenge to play a villain. As actors, we\u2019re taught not to judge our character. But, it\u2019s a fun challenge to be as dark as you need to be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThis show is the revival script so there are a few new characters \u2013 and a few more storylines. And, there are some additional songs that were originally written for other Rodgers and Hammerstein shows.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThis production is a blast. I get to sing with my whole family in one number. And, I do most of the singing in \u2018A Lovely Night.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cEven though Madame is a villain, there are things I like about her. I really love how driven she is. She is a widow and has two children to take care of. She knows what she needs to do for her family and she does it\u2026and she never asks for permission.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The production runs for just under two hours but moves at such a quick pace that young children never lose interest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cAudiences really love the new twist that the plot tales,\u201d said Primmer. \u201cIt\u2019s a bit more contemporary without losing the charm of the classic tale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cEverything technically about the show is stunning and we have the most colorful costumes. Ticket prices range from $40-$90.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">There is another show this week that will take audiences back to a time when things were less hectic and life was more gentle.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3150\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/mads-tolling.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3150\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3150\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/mads-tolling-350x245.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"245\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3150\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mads Tolling and Mads Men<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">On February 6, the Sellersville Theater (24 West Temple Avenue, Sellersville, 215-257-5808,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.st94.com\/\"><span class=\"s2\">www.st94.com<\/span><\/a>) is hosting a concert by Mads Tolling, a two time Grammy Award winning violinist and the 2016 \u00a0DownBeat Critics Poll Rising Star Award winner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Tolling is performing his new album, \u201cPlaying The 60s.\u201d The album includes timeless movie themes, popular TV classics and celebrated songs ranging from \u201cThe Pink Panther\u201d and \u201cMeet The Flintstones\u201d to \u201cGeorgia On My Mind\u201d and \u201cA Taste Of Honey.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI grew up in Copenhagen,\u201d said Tolling, during a phone interview last week from his home in the San Francisco Bay area. \u201cCopenhagen was my hood for 20 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI started playing violin when I was six. It was my parents\u2019 idea. They heard that playing violin with the Suzuki method was good for concentration in school. I studied Suzuki for six years learning the classics.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">As he got older, Tolling was not content to limit himself to classical music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cEventually, I got attracted to the dark side \u2013 jazz, rock, all the stuff you\u2019re not supposed to do,\u201d said Tolling, a multiple Grammy Award winner. \u201cThe first jazz album I got was Miles Davis\u2019 \u2018Autumn Leaves.\u2019 I was attracted to that intimacy and space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThat took me to Stephane Grappelli and Sven Asmussen. I used that as a role model for me. Eventually, I started studying jazz. I went to a music high school and then decided to study at Berklee.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Tolling moved to the U.S. at the age of 20 to pursue jazz studies. He studied under violinist Matt Glaser, and he graduated summa cum laude from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2003. While Tolling was still attending Berklee, the renowned jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty recommended him to join Stanley Clarke\u2019s band.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Since then, Tolling has performed more than 100 concerts with Clarke worldwide and played on Clarke\u2019s album \u201cToys of Men.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Besides his activities as a performer, Mads Tolling is an accomplished composer. In addition to his original writing on his two most recent albums, Tolling arranged one of his compositions for saxophonist Joe Lovano and string orchestra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">He has also contributed numerous arrangements and compositions to Turtle Island Quartet\u2019s repertoire. In 2014, Tolling was commissioned by Music Director, Michael Morgan to write a Violin Concerto for Oakland East Bay Symphony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI joined Turtle Island Quartet and won a couple Grammys with them,\u201d said Tolling. \u201cThat was my biggest learning experience. Then, I started my current project.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">In 2007, Tolling started his own trio and immediately recorded the album \u201cSpeed of Light.\u201d The following year the trio expanded to a quartet featuring Mike Abraham on guitar, George Ban-Weiss on bass, Eric Garland on drums and Tolling on violin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cLately, I got into the theme thing from the 60s,\u201d said Tolling. \u201cWe took all these great songs and made our own arrangements with piano instead of guitar. There were a lot of inspirations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI grew up watching some of these shows like \u2018The Flintstones.\u2019 I loved Clint Eastwood in \u2018The Good, The Bad, The Ugly\u2019 and the soundtrack was great.
