Costner stars as a former Secret Service agent-turned-bodyguard who is hired to protect Houston&#8217;s character, a music star, from an unknown stalker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The story found new life a few years ago in another life form.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe Bodyguard\u201d is also a 2012 stage <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Musical_theatre\"><span class=\"s2\">musical<\/span><\/a> written by Alexander Dinelaris, based on the 1992 film with the score featuring songs recorded by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Whitney_Houston\"><span class=\"s2\">Whitney Houston<\/span><\/a> including \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/One_Moment_in_Time\"><span class=\"s2\">One Moment in Time<\/span><\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/I_Wanna_Dance_with_Somebody\"><span class=\"s2\">I Wanna Dance with Somebody<\/span><\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/I_Will_Always_Love_You\"><span class=\"s2\">I Will Always Love You<\/span><\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As a\u00a0 musical, \u201cThe Bodyguard\u201d had its premiere production open in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/London\"><span class=\"s2\">London<\/span><\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/West_End_theatre\"><span class=\"s2\">West End<\/span><\/a> in December 2012. It closed in August 2014 and then went on several tours throughout the U.K. and Europe. It also had a West End revival in London last summer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The inaugural U.S. tour of \u201cThe Bodyguard\u201d began a few months ago and is scheduled to visit Philly for a six-day run from February 21-26 as part of the Kimmel Center\u2019s \u201cBroadway Philadelphia\u201d series at the Academy of Music (Broad and Locust streets, Philadelphia, 215-731-3333, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kimmelcenter.org\/\"><span class=\"s2\">www.kimmelcenter.org<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The smash musical will star Grammy Award-nominated and multi-platinum R&amp;B\/pop recording artist and film\/TV actress Deborah Cox in the lead role as Rachel Marron.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The role of\u00a0bodyguard Frank Farmer is played by television star Judson Mills.\u00a0\u00a0In addition, Jasmin Richardson plays the role of Rachel\u2019s sister Nicki Marron and is also\u00a0the understudy for Deborah Cox in the lead role.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The stage musical, like the 1992 Oscar-nominated film, features an impressive line-up of classic songs\u00a0including \u201cSo Emotional,\u201d \u201cI Want To Dance With Somebody\u201d and one of the biggest selling songs of all time &#8212; \u201cI Will Always Love You.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3267\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/bodyguard-megan-fulmer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3267\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3267\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/bodyguard-megan-fulmer-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3267\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Megan Elyse Fulmer<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The talent-laden cast also features a young actress whose roots are in the Philadelphia area. Megan Elyse Fulmer, a native of Morrisville who graduated from Montclair State University with a BFA in Musical Theater, plays the role of \u201cCollege Girl\u201d and is also a member of the ensemble.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI auditioned last May and found out I had the job in June,\u201d said Fulmer, during a recent phone interview from a tour stop in Chicago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThere was an audition and they were looking for versatile dancers who were individuals. They didn\u2019t want a conformed ensemble. Because of my look \u2013 my mom is Puerto Rican and my dad is Irish\/German\/Dutch \u2013 and my athletic ability, they noticed me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Audiences also notice Fulmer because of her exotic look, her dancing ability and her obvious talent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI\u2019m very busy in the first act,\u201d said Fulmer, who graduated from Pennsbury High School in 2010. \u201cWe open with a big dance number \u2013 \u2018Queen of the Night\u2019 \u2013 and then shift into a rehearsal scene with \u2018How Will I Know?\u2019 Then, I play a drunk college girl in the number \u2018Where Do Broken Hearts Go\u2019 at the end of Act I.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Fans of the movie will find plenty to like with the musical version.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI think it\u2019s pretty close to the movie,\u201d said Fulmer. \u201cThey did a good job of bringing Rachel\u2019s sister to life. And, they did a great job of using Whitney\u2019s music. The story drives the show and the music keeps it alive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt\u2019s not a jukebox musical. It\u2019s a play with Whitney Houston\u2019s music. Alcest is a Parisian post-metal duo that has been around since 2000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s4\">Alcest &#8212; <\/span><span class=\"s1\">vocalist \/ multi-instrumentalist Neige and drummer Winterhalter &#8212; is touring North America in support of its new album \u201cKodama\u201d (Prophecy Productions), an album hailed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/allsongs\/2016\/09\/22\/494873984\/the-words-are-made-up-but-alcests-kodama-sure-is-pretty\"><span class=\"s5\">NPR<\/span><\/a>\u00a0as \u201cgracefully savage\u201d music that exists \u201csomewhere between glistening post-rock and glitzy arena-pop.\u201d The tour touches down in Philly on February at the Foundry at Fillmore Philadelphia (1100 Canal Street, Philadelphia, 215-309-0150, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefillmorephilly.com\/\"><span class=\"s2\">www.thefillmorephilly.com<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Often described as a blackgaze band, Alcest makes music the has elements of both lush ethereal music and hard-edged black metal music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cBlackgaze is just a way that people try to categorize us,\u201d said Neige, during a phone interview Tuesday from a tour stop in Nashville, Tennessee. \u201cI think we\u2019re softer than most of the blackgaze bands.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Alcest was founded around the turn-of-the-century by Neige (St\u00e9phane Paut) and later joined by drummer Winterhalter (Jean Deflandre) in 2009. Labeled as post metal\/shoegaze or \u201cblackgaze\u201d, Alcest were the pioneers within this genre, crafting a unique sound based on musical opposites from their very first EP \u201cLe Secret\u201d (2005), and through their full-length releases \u201cSouvenirs D&#8217;Un Autre Monde\u201d (2007), \u201c\u00c9cailles De Lune\u201d (2010) and \u201cLes Voyages De L&#8217;Ame\u201d (2012).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In 2014 their fourth album \u201cShelter\u201d was released, marking the band\u2019s departure from the more metal sound in favor of dream-pop aesthetics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0\u201cI discovered rock as a teenager and started playing guitar,\u201d said Neige. \u201cDiscovering black metal was quite important for me. I wanted to discover a new genre so I formed Alcest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIn the very beginning, I was imitating bands I was listening to \u2013 including a couple Norwegian black metal bands. Very quickly after that, I had a spiritual experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As a youngster, Neige had dreams about a \u201cFairy Land\u201d &#8212; a place with colors, forms and sounds that do not exist here. The music of Alcest has been highly influenced by these dream experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Starting out playing raw black metal with a line-up including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metal-archives.com\/artists\/La_Sale_Famine_de_Valfunde\/2120\"><span class=\"s5\">La Sale Famine de Valfunde<\/span><\/a> with whom Neige played in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metal-archives.com\/bands\/Peste_Noire\/12841\"><span class=\"s5\">Peste Noire<\/span><\/a> until being fired in 2009, Alcest soon evolved into metal with strong post-rock and shoegaze influences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI wanted to bring different elements to metal,\u201d said Neige. \u201cMetal has dark subject matter. For me, I was interested in the opposite \u2013 a more luminous side to metal. I didn\u2019t necessarily want to be another metal band.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI discovered shoegaze later. I had already been making dreamy vocals without knowing about shoegaze. Then, I discovered bands like My Bloody Valentine. Bridging the gap between metal and shoegaze was really not intentional.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIn the beginning, everything was very natural. The sound came by itself. Some people really hated us for being untrue to metal. Now, people are respecting what we do. It\u2019s quite cool to bring two diverse genres together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Alcest\u2019s fifth album \u201cKodama\u201d marks the French duo\u2019s ferocious return to the stylistic maximalism of its early albums while continuing the band\u2019s relentless pursuit for new sounds and fresh ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Kodama, Japanese for \u201ctree spirit\u201d, also implies \u201cecho\u201d (through yamabiko \u2013 the process of sounds reverberating across mountains, valleys and forests, which is often attributed to these spirits). \u201cKodama\u201d draws substantial inspiration from Japanese art and culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe recorded the album in France from January to April in 2016,\u201d said Neige. \u201cWe cut it at Jordan House in Brittany. I had started the songwriting right after the release of our last album three years ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe new took some time because I was really selective with my songs. \u2018Kodama\u2019 is a lot different than our earlier albums. The tour\u2019s support bands are heavy metal bands Death Angel, Winds of Plague, The Agonist and Azreal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The upcoming \u201cBound By The Road\u201d tour follows the band\u2019s most recent public performance at Ozzfest Meets Knotfest, where it shot the newest music video for the group\u2019s latest album\u2019s title track \u201cTrust No One.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">DevilDriver &#8212; Dez Fafara \u2013 Vocals; &#8211; Mike Spreitzer \u2013 Guitar; Neal Tiemann \u2013 Guitar; ; Diego Ibarra \u2013 Bass; &#8211; Austin D&#8217;Amond \u2013 Drums &#8212; released its seventh studio album,\u00a0\u201cTrust No One,\u201d i<\/span><span class=\"s7\">n May 2016 via Napalm Records.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s7\">\u201cWe\u2019re still in tour cycle for \u2018Trust No One\u2019 right now,\u201d said Tiemann, during a phone interview Wednesday afternoon from a tour stop in Toronto, Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s7\">\u201cWe\u2019re about halfway through the cycle. We plan to tour for the rest of the year. We\u2019ve already started to write a little for our next album. Mike and I are always working on riffs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s7\">\u201cWe recorded \u2018Trust No One\u2019 in California last year. It was the first album with the band for me and drummer Austin D\u2019Amond. We both joined DevilDriver in 2015. I had been friends with Dez for a while before I joined the group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s7\">\u201cWe first hooked up through our wives. They met on Instagram because they\u2019re both into Harlequin Great Danes. That was the connection. The first time we all got together, Dez and I hung out listening to Pantera albums.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s7\">\u201cFortunately for me, DevilDriver\u2019s old guitarist quit and I jumped right in. Austin came on a little later. Producer Mark Lewis told us \u2013 you\u2019ve got to use Austin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s7\">\u201cAn interesting thing about making the album was the circumstances. Usually, a band has time to rehearse and play. This time, we wrote the songs before we even played together. It really just started with writing. Mike and I and Austin write all the music and Dez does the lyrics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s7\">\u201cAt the beginning, we\u2019d write a little on our own and then get together at Mike\u2019s. As the songs developed, some were collaborations and some we wrote on our own. It was a lot more democratic than I expected.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s7\">\u201cOur very first show together was in Las Vegas last year. We were heading out with Hatebreed and that was our first time touring this album. We were completely fresh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s7\">\u201cI had to learn a lot of earlier DevilDriver stuff. We didn\u2019t want to steer anything in a different direction.\u00a0 I listened to all of the band\u2019s back catalogue and learned half of it. We still play songs from every album.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s7\">\u201cThe older material was a little more straight-forward and that left space for me and Austin. With the new album, I think we have something special. Pop Evil conjures aggressive riffs and hard charging sing-a-longs with emotional heft and melodic power in equal measure. It\u2019s music by the people, for the people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s4\">Pop Evil \u2013 <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Leigh Kakaty, lead vocals; Dave Grahs, rhythm guitar, backing vocals; Matt DiRito, bass, backing vocals; Nick Fuelling, lead guitar, backing vocals; Hayley Cramer, drums &#8212; released\u00a0its most recent album \u201cUp\u201d in 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The album hit Number 1 on the Billboard Indie Chart in the week of its release. The newest single \u201cIf Only for Now\u201d is in the Top 20 on Billboard\u2019s Mainstream Rock Songs chart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The three previous singles from \u201cUp\u201d &#8212; \u201cFootsteps,\u201d \u201cTake It All\u201d and \u201cWays to Get High\u201d &#8212; all hit the top three of the list. The album, which was released through eOne Music, has sold almost 60,000 copies, according to Nielsen Music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe\u2019re still touring heavily on \u2018Up\u2019 but this will be the last tour for the album,\u201d said DiRito, during a phone interview Wednesday from a tour stop in Cleveland, Ohio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cAfter we finish, we\u2019ll go back in the studio and start working on our next album. We haven\u2019t written any songs for it yet but we\u2019ve been dabbling in sound check riffs. The bulk of our writing will wait until we get in the studio.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Pop Evil is a Michigan band that was formed by Kakaty just over 15 years ago. Since then, the band has released four albums \u2013 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lipstick_on_the_Mirror\"><span class=\"s2\">Lipstick on the Mirror<\/span><\/a>\u201d (2008), \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/War_of_Angels\"><span class=\"s2\">War of Angels<\/span><\/a>\u201d (2011), \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Onyx_(Pop_Evil_album)\"><span class=\"s2\">Onyx<\/span><\/a>\u201d (2013) and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Up_(Pop_Evil_album)\"><span class=\"s2\">Up<\/span><\/a>\u201d(2015).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe difference between the older albums and \u2018Up\u2019 is that there is more continuity on the new album,\u201d said DiRito. \u201cBefore, each song felt like it was its own piece. This time, we made an album instead of a collection of songs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe recorded \u2018Up\u2019 with producer Adam Kasser and used three different studios in Seattle. His style was totally different than anyone we worked with before. Our previous album was produced by Johnny K. This time, we wanted a different take. We wanted to push it in a new direction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cAdam is a very laid-back guy. He goes more by feel. Adam is more like a jam band guy. We experimented more when we were working with him \u2013 and we had great vintage gear to use. It was a really good experience working with both Johnny K and Adam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cDeciding on a producer for our next album is still up in the air. We won\u2019t use Adam or Johnny K again. We\u2019re going to do a lot of writing in our hometown \u2013 Grand Rapids, Michigan. We\u2019ll also be making lot of demos on our own.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the meantime, Pop Evil is hammering away with live performances of tunes from the latest disc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cRight now, we\u2019re playing at least half the songs from \u2018Up\u2019 \u2013 if not more,\u201d said DiRito. \u201cWe still play songs from every album. The following night the same thing happened when she headlined a show at the Sellersville Theater.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI\u2019ve been pretty busy over the last six months \u2013 a lot of work, a lot of travel,\u201d said Ball, during a phone interview Monday from her home in Austin, Texas. \u201cI had two trips to Europe to do shows. And, I just did Delbert McClinton\u2019s \u2018Sandy Beaches\u2019 cruise in January.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Over the years, there have been a number of stellar piano players from Louisiana who have made the region\u2019s blend of blues, soul and swamp boogie famous around the world. The list is mostly male-dominated &#8212; Fats Domino, Huey \u201cPiano\u201d Smith, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, Professor Longhair &#8212; but also includes Marcia Ball.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ball is touring in support of her latest album \u201cThe Tattooed Lady And The Alligator Man.\u201d The album is her sixth release for Alligator Records. Four of her previous five releases received Grammy Award nominations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The release mixes Ball\u2019s Gulf Coast blues, New Orleans R&amp;B, swampy Louisiana ballads, and jumping, Tex-\u00ad\u2010Mex flavored zydeco into a one\u00ad\u2010of\u00ad\u2010a\u00ad\u2010kind musical gumbo &#8212; a sound she has been perfecting over the course of her legendary career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ball received the 2014 Blues Music Award (BMA) for the Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year. She has now won a total of 10 BMAs and has received a whopping 44 nominations. Ball recently received a 2015 Living Blues Readers&#8217; Poll Award for Most Outstanding Musician (Keyboard) and now holds nine Living Blues Awards in all. She was inducted into the Gulf Coast Hall of Fame in 2010 and into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI haven\u2019t been in the studio for a while,\u201d said Ball. \u201cEver since I released the last album, I\u2019ve been touring and traveling and playing these songs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThere\u2019s no new album soon but I have been doing some writing. I have seven or eight originals. And, I have a couple covers that I\u2019d like to record &#8212; obscure covers of old New Orleans stuff. Obviously, I\u2019m not in a rush \u2013 but I am moving in that direction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI\u2019ve been helping my friend Shelly King to do an album and that has been fun. It\u2019s getting me inspired to make a new album. But, I\u2019ve got a lot of work through the summer so I\u2019m looking at recording in the fall and a spring release.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ball released her first album in 1972. Her career is still going full-tilt 46 years later and her popularity continues to grow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It was back in the early 1970s when she immersed herself in the music of the great New Orleans piano players &#8212; especially Professor Longhair. Her solo album debut was a country-rock album called \u201cCircuit Queen\u201d that was released in 1978 on Capitol Records.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Before long, Ball developed her own sound which was much more in line with the sweat-drenched music played in clubs in the Texas-Louisiana border region than with traditional country music. She released six critically-acclaimed albums on the Rounder label during the 1980s and 1990s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Louisiana vibe became more pronounced when she moved to Alligator Records in 2001. She has recorded seven albums for Alligator, including \u201cRoadside Attractions\u201d, which received a 2011 Grammy Award nomination in the Best Blues Album category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI\u2019m still a little studio shy &#8212; and I don\u2019t write that much,\u201d said Ball. \u201cI make a lot of notes, hum songs into my cell phone and then finally sit at a piano at home. I\u2019m busy and it\u2019s hard to find time to write with so much going on.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Even though Ball has been recording and touring for more than four decades, the spirited veteran is showing no signs of slowing down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI\u2019m still doing more than 100 shows a year and that\u2019s fine,\u201d said Ball. \u201cI play clubs and theaters and do a few festivals each year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI never get tired of being on the road because home is where the homework is. My band is what it is &#8212; a five-piece with bass, drums, guitar, sax and me on keyboards and vocals.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ball and her band members all have roots in the Louisiana\/Texas music scene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI grew up in Louisiana,\u201d said Ball. \u201cI was listening to New Orleans music, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis. I also listened to a lot of blues musicians who did gigs in Baton Rouge. Together and as solo artists they have worked and recorded with hundreds of artists, including folks such as Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Jack Bruce, and Phil Lesh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It may seem that 18 years of playing together as a duo is a long time. But, that\u2019s just the tip of the iceberg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Tackett and Barrere have also been rocking together since 1972 as core members of the classic southern boogie band Little Feat. When Little Feat is on break, the duo just keeps rolling along &#8212; touring almost year-round.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe usually do a few weekend gigs a month,\u201d said Barrere, during a phone interview last week from his home in Los Angeles. \u201cWe tend to jam a bunch of gigs in at the beginning of the year and then take the summer off.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe also still play a bunch of shows with Little Feat. We just finished doing our \u2018Little Feat Ramble on the Island\u2019 getaway in Jamaica. This was our 15<\/span><span class=\"s8\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> year and we had great guests like Larry Campbell and Theresa Williams, Jackson Browne and Amy Helm. Toward the fall, we usually do a Northeast run with Little Feat.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Barrere-Tackett story began in 1972 during the recording of the classic Little Feat album, \u201cDixie Chicken.\u201d Barerre was the guitarist for the band at that time. Lowell George, the leader of Little Feat, was a close friend of multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Fred Tackett.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">George wanted to record Tackett\u2019s song \u201cFool Yourself,\u201d so it was there at Clover Studios in Hollywood that they began playing music together.\u00a0 \u00a0Many years and many sessions later, Fred became a member of Little Feat when the band reformed in 1987.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe first album I was on with Little Feat was \u2018Dixie Chicken\u2019 and it was the first album with the band as a six-piece,\u201d said Barrere. \u201cIt\u2019s been quite a run \u2013 a lot of years. Our last album was \u2018Rooster Rag\u2019 in 2012. That was a lot of fun.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Little Feat has released 16 studio albums and 16 live albums. Tackett &amp; Barrere, meanwhile, have released only two albums \u2013 both of which are recordings of live shows.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe\u2019ve been talking about doing a studio album forever,\u201d said Barrere. \u201cThen, when we get home from touring, we start puttering around and we forget about the album. We will record a studio album sometime in the not too distant future. I\u2019m constantly playing guitar \u2013 and I\u2019m writing all the time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWhen Fred and I play as an acoustic duo, we do a lot of Little Feat stuff. It\u2019s neat because we get to put a different spin on the songs. \u2018Dixie Chicken\u2019 sounds a lot different. And, we do \u2018Rocket in My Pocket\u2019 with guitar and mandolin.
