\"\"<\/a>It would be relevant and timely to do some sort of \u201cfootball fashion\u201d etiquette for this week.<\/p>\n

However, I find it difficult to concentrate on the Super Bowl for longer than Madonna\u2019s half time show.\u00a0 In fact, I enjoy watching the commercials more than anything else.\u00a0 (Confident that I am not alone on this one)<\/p>\n

SO, as a distraction for the 12-hour constant stream of athletic commentary (woefully outnumbered in my household), I thought it might be fun to try my hand at a \u201ctutorial\u201d of sorts\u2026.\"\"<\/p>\n

The Art of Layering 101: by Kelly <\/strong><\/p>\n

Winter is the PERFECT time to play around with pattern and texture!<\/p>\n

Eliminate the boring compartmentalized notion that an \u201coutfit\u201d consists of a top, pants and shoes<\/strong>.\u00a0 Instead, think about how a jacket, scarf or pile of bracelets can transform your look into something much more fashion forward.<\/p>\n

Let us start with a simple enough ensemble —<\/p>\n

EXAMPLE ONE:\"\"<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Jeans \/striped cotton top\/ flats<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/strong>Perfectly acceptable, right?<\/p>\n

HOWEVER, adding a few extra pieces elevates this outfit into something infinitely more stylish:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The addition of the pattern on the scarf and animal print belt add a quirky, fun spark to a very plain <\/strong>Jane get-up. \u00a0Throw on a gold watch, and you are completely chic.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/strong>EXAMPLE TWO:<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Corduroys\/ Polka dot blouse\/ Gray ballet flats<\/strong><\/p>\n

The jean jacket and the unexpected juxtaposition of the striped belt make this look like a brand new creation. \u00a0The silver watch and glitter bangle add a little sparkle.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>EXAMPLE THREE:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Gingham top\/black skinny pants\/fur trimmed boot<\/strong><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t be afraid to mix brown and black.\u00a0 These two neutrals pair perfectly together!<\/p>\n

Freezing temperatures necessitate layering\u2026not only for the extra warmth that it provides, but, the ability to combine items in your closet in a new way to liven up your \u201csame old\u201d basics!<\/p>\n

I also love to layer with my jewelry!<\/p>\n

\u201cArm candy\u201d is a huge trend that is continuing right into Spring!\u00a0 Bust out those baubles that have been collecting dust in your jewelry box.\u00a0 More is more, ladies!<\/p>\n

The same is true for necklaces.\u00a0 Throw on a delicate chain and layer longer and progressively heavier pieces over it.\u00a0 My only suggestion when it comes to piling on jewelry is to pick one or the other to accessorize.\u00a0 In other words, if you have a forearm full of bracelets, don\u2019t have four necklaces on, too.\u00a0 Otherwise, you run the risk of looking like \u201cMr. T\u201d\u2026.and, that\u2019s not so great.<\/p>\n

Well, this concludes my first \u201cMaster Class\u201d.\u00a0 Hopefully, you will be encouraged to mix and match the clothes hanging in your closet.\u00a0 Putting together a new look with old items will put a \u201cspring\u201d in your step\u2026even if it still feels like winter outside!<\/p>\n
