KSHC recognizes homeowners for efforts in preservation of historic home<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

KENNETT SQUARE \u2014 Representatives of the Kennett Square Historical Commission gathered at Monday night\u2019s Borough Council meeting for an \u201chistoric\u201d occasion\u2014to present the Annual Historic Preservation Award.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis year the Historical Commission has selected Ken and Debby Helm for their renovation of a charming 1920\u2019s twin located at 121 Mulberry Street,\u201d KSHC member Bobbie Bailey said. \u201cThe investor\/owner renovated the duplex using many of the commission\u2019s recommendations for architectural preservation including; restoration of the original shudders; porch trim and exposed rafter tails; duplicating the front door, gutters, and windows; and retaining the character of the porch by scraping and painting the original ceiling.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The award has been presented to home owners for over ten years. The KSHC identifies the efforts of homeowners not only as a congratulatory function, but also as a way of helping to preserve the historic majesty of Kennett itself.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe give this award to recognize a property owner who has made an outstanding effort to restore, renovate, and preserve a contributing structure within the Kennett Square National Register, Historical District,\u201d said Historical Commission member Anne Ashcroft.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBy following the guidelines, the recipient has shown an appreciation and respect for the craftsmanship of the past,\u201d she continued. \u201cSuch efforts not only improve and enhance a building, but also contribute to the character and historical integrity of the immediate neighborhood and the entire district.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Kimberly Pizzuto, the current homeowner, accepted the award on behalf of the Helms. She accepted the lawn sign that proclaims her property\u2019s preservation award and promised to display it with pride for all to see.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
