The Chester County District Attorney’s Office and the Pennsylvania State Police announced that <\/span>there was a trooper-involved shooting in Avondale, Pennsylvania at approximately <\/span>11:30 <\/span>p.m. on May 23, 2018. Three Troopers discharged their weapons, authorities said. Nobody <\/span>was struck <\/span>or injured in the shooting.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0At 11<\/span>:21<\/span> p.m., the State Police\u00a0 received a call for an erratic driver in the area of Route 1 <\/span>and Route 796. Two marked PSP patrol vehicles responded. They reportedly observed the driver of a Saturn weaving and operating the vehicle with an expired<\/span> registration.<\/p>\n

The driver of the vehicle in question was later identified as\u00a0Brian Touchton.<\/span><\/p>\n

The troopers attempted to pull the Saturn over. The driver of the Saturn then allegedly fled, with the troopers in pursuit. The troopers reportedly tried to <\/span>box the <\/span>car in, but authorities said the driver of the Saturn continued to flee. The driver eventually turned into a <\/span>large, open area where mushroom compost is stored <\/span>on Old Baltimore Pike, Avondale, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

The Troopers boxed in the driver of the Saturn, which was now<\/span> stopped, and exited their <\/span>vehicles. Once the Troopers <\/span>were on foot and while there was still contact between the vehicles, the driver reportedly attempted to flee<\/span> by placing the Saturn in rever<\/span>se<\/span>. <\/span>Three troopers then discharged their <\/span>service weapons at that point, police said.<\/p>\n

The driver of the Saturn did not s<\/span>top, <\/span>but allegedly kept fleeing. The troopers again pursued the Saturn. <\/span>A third PSP vehicle <\/span>joined the chase. The driver of the Saturn eventually drove behind a building and became <\/span>stuck in the <\/span>underbrush<\/span>. <\/span>The driver then <\/span>surrendered to the troopers. The driver was not injured.<\/p>\n

The driver, Touchton, <\/span>is in custody, charged <\/span>with fleeing <\/span>and e<\/span>l<\/span>ud<\/span>i<\/span>ng, <\/span>DUI, and driving with a suspended <\/span>license. Pending <\/span>the conclusion of this investigation, additional <\/span>ch<\/span>arges <\/span>may be filed.<\/p>\n

Pur<\/span>sua<\/span>nt <\/span>to t<\/span>he Chester County District Attorney’s Office Protocol, the <\/span>Chester County Detectives \u2014 <\/span>the inve<\/span>stigative\u00a0<\/span>arm of the District Attorney’s Office \u2014\u00a0will be the independent agency who will review this officer-involved shooting. <\/span>The Chester County Detectives will <\/span>work with the Pennsylvania State Police on this matter. The Chester County District Attorney will then make a decision regarding whether the shoot<\/span>ing <\/span>was justified.<\/p>\n

All of this information is preliminary, pending a full review<\/span> of all available evidence. At the conclusion of the investigation, the District Attorney’s Office will provide <\/span>written findings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
