{"id":31033,"date":"2019-02-20T09:09:04","date_gmt":"2019-02-20T14:09:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=31033"},"modified":"2019-02-20T09:09:06","modified_gmt":"2019-02-20T14:09:06","slug":"winter-storm-ice-could-clog-evening-commute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/?p=31033","title":{"rendered":"Winter storm, ice could clog evening commute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>By Mike McGann<\/strong>, <em>Editor, The Times<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Snowcloud.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9078\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Snowcloud-340x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>A funny thing happened on the way to pretty much everything in Chester County shutting down on Wednesday: as of 9 a.m. only the first few flakes of what are expected to be a messy Winter storm started falling in the southern portion of the county.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here\u2019s why many businesses and most schools are shut: a storm bringing 3 to 5 inches of snow, followed by sleet and freezing rain and then, finally, rain, was expected to hit the region during the day, according to the National Weather Service.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The forecast led many to close their offices and local school districts announced they would shut by Tuesday night \u2014 and state officials warned motorists to try to stay off the roads if possible during the day Wednesday:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThis storm could bring with it a travel mess and so I encourage everyone who can stay off the roads to do so tomorrow,\u201d Gov. Tom Wolf said in a statement. \u201cBe sure to check your local weather and road conditions and heed the advice of local emergency responders and personnel, and, as always, check on your neighbors, especially the elderly.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While the snow is messy, it is the ice \u2014 and the potential for the deadly combination of rain-slicked icy roads \u2014 that offers the greatest threat to motorists. The changeover from snow to a mix and then finally, rain, is expected to start in the southern portion of the county just after 5 p.m. \u2014 and gradually move north. Temperatures are expected to reach into the 50s on Thursday \u2014 leading to a rapid melt. Additional rain is expected both Saturday and Sunday (where temps could top 60), leading to saturated grounds and already full creeks and rivers.
